"If you go to eBay and look at all of the gaming stuff that's on there, it's unbelievable. Collector's stuff. We've got to be in that business. We will be," Gamestop CEO Paul Raines

in my neck of the woods, we have a gamestop right next door to walmart. walmart sells a game for 59.99, gamestop for 69.99. they are so arrogant, the won't lower the price despite being next door to a prime competitor. ON black friday, they lower the price to 59.99 and send out fliers telling everyone what a great deal they are getting. Meanwhile walmart has lowered there prices to 49.99. I don't trust gamestop with anything let alone classic games.

Yeah, I kinda let GameStop go not too long ago.  I will stick with PlaynTrade and online for my retro needs.

I can't wait to see them fail miserably at this.

GameStop is a very top down organization. There is no way they can kill the indie stores (which is what they are really saying here, let's be honest) without empowering managers and associates, letting them make significant decisions at the store level on a case by case basis...and they are way too paranoid to allow that sort of thing.

My company recently hired a manager from Game-ripoff, and let me tell you, if he is anything like the standard employee, omg.  nice guy, but dumb as a brick.
NW: Hey, I made it on this psycho's Enemies' List, how about that ?? ;)

BT: Look at how the fake SFII' carts instantly sold out and were immediately listed on eBay before the flippers even took possession. Look at Nintendo's overpriced bricks. Look at the typical forum discussions elsewhere.

You can't tell most retro gamers anything!

Most of the employees think they know more than they actually know.

Those f*ckers. As Funcoland, they ALREADY dealt in retro systems and look how well that turned out. Their prices sucked pre-ebay and their prices will suck post-ebay. I remember clueless friends buying loose copies of games like Secret of Mana for $59 because they couldn't find it at Best Buy. Not only did Funcoland's careless practices ruin countless boxes, manuals, and even games, but Gamestop/Funcoland turned their back on customers like me as they rushed to dump their old systems and keep pace with the latest, most-profitable bullshit. Now they're crawling back. I wonder how they've gone about amassing their retro inventory to-date.

I will say one thing for Funcoland, their pay out was WAY better than GameStop. When I got my N64 from them they gave me $54 for Megaman X2, which is more than I paid for it. These days, unless the game is two weeks old, you're going to get completely hosed at GameStop.

Most indie stores (game or otherwise) give you half of what they will sell it for. GameStop gives you $2 and then puts a $20 price tag on it. It's ridiculous.

It does not matter, because consumers, like 13 year olds who are in college right now, and we all know how ceeewwll college is. Are going to be the ones to look into that stuff. Seriously, comic book store owners do not take videogames seriously, and now they have Videogames at comic-con, because they know the comicverse is getting more filled wth more rubbish ( because of my laziness ),

Then their is going to be that generation who never ever owned an Atari to begin with, or never been to a real garage sale, to find them all over the place. You know the person who walked into Videogame museum, and goes hmmm, videogames are coolll, educational,. or some sorta homer simpson sound.

I hate Gamestop, they fired manager, after manager at my previous funcoland, just for not making enough, pre-orders, or keeping the store clean. Then they hired the worlds, omega depressing manager, for god only knows why, because she never liked me and hired other tired depressing women. Gamestop turned into another burger king, but without the grease, or food. Where managers hire people who was like them, and not into videogames at all. You go into a gamestop, the employees reflects the manager. It gets sader, and sader everyday. If your a 13 year old, you will not notice the difference, but maybe because I am beyond that, and feel like if I am walking into a hamper.

You want to get rid of gamestop, do not give them any business.

Not much love for gamestop I see. never bought a single item from them, too high priced, no in them every knew a thing about the games.  I so hope they don't get into older game systems, They will become the new price and customer service standard.

And for that matter what every happened to customer service?

Gamefly, netflix or whatever are in the same boat as Gamestop. I bet they are owned by the same stock margin, or companies. Lets bash the only store that is not game crazy/.

I don't understand how this company is still in business.  Who is buying from them?  Parents with no clue?  I don't buy that.  Even parents know that you can get PS3 and XBOX360 games at Wal-Mart.  So again, who is buying from them?
I'm busy playing pinball, but I still drop by to visit.

Plenty of kids, teens, and twenty and thirty-something people shop at Gamestop. Why? I dunno. I guess if you're looking for a new release, they're guaranteed to have plenty in stock and you can't usually find a brand new game cheaper somewhere else anyway.

Personally I haven't spent a penny at GS in years, and I think this move could ruin classic collecting for us.
