Yeah, lots of people go to gamestop. I hate to think of the old games that were thrown away b/c gamestop doesn't give credit for them. It's possible that Gamestop re-entering the retro game market could lower prices on medium-rare games due to an increase in supply... but I'll bet they would just keep shit marked up.

Plenty of kids, teens, and twenty and thirty-something people shop at Gamestop. Why? I dunno. I guess if you're looking for a new release, they're guaranteed to have plenty in stock and you can't usually find a brand new game cheaper somewhere else anyway.

Personally I haven't spent a penny at GS in years, and I think this move could ruin classic collecting for us.
I don't buy this either.  What about Target?  Best Buy?  Hell, my local grocery chain sells 'now generation' games.  There's no reason to go to GameStop.  The prices are the same and they have day one releases.  The only thing they are missing at these alternative stores are some of the exclusives.  Please don't tell me exclusives are driving the sales behind GameStop.  That's ludicrous!!!

Those f*ckers. As Funcoland, they ALREADY dealt in retro systems and look how well that turned out. Their prices sucked pre-ebay and their prices will suck post-ebay. I remember clueless friends buying loose copies of games like Secret of Mana for $59 because they couldn't find it at Best Buy. Not only did Funcoland's careless practices ruin countless boxes, manuals, and even games, but Gamestop/Funcoland turned their back on customers like me as they rushed to dump their old systems and keep pace with the latest, most-profitable bullshit. Now they're crawling back. I wonder how they've gone about amassing their retro inventory to-date.

WhereTF is the like/+1 button on this forum. I am so Web 2.0 now... I look for the button without even thinking...

A few of the guys I work with will go to GS for day one releases. Honestly, I think it's just a matter of "I need a game, might as well go to the GAME store to get it."

Honestly, when I pick up a new movie or concert DVD on day one, I'll typically go to Newbury Comics or even BB, instead of Target where it might be cheaper. It's not because I don't like Target, it's because when I think music or movies, Target doesn't come to mind.

The difference between Newbury Comics and Gamestop is that Gamestop sucks, so it's easier to question why people shop there.

Even parents know that you can get PS3 and XBOX360 games at Wal-Mart.  So again, who is buying from them?

Well the reason why parents, are parents is because they never wore condoms. That is the kind of people who are shopping from them.
A parent who is like, where do I go for videogames, and most of them are not us.  You know the same people who buy bootlegged DVD's
that are in unwatchable format.

I go to Gamestop once in a blue moon and if I see a CIB game that I wanted and it's less than eBay, I might get it.  Mostly I just use my phone and snap the Club Nintendo code so I can get free points. A lot of used games still has the code that are never used.

Back in Funcoland day, I used to get free NES game boxes (and often instruction inside) if they didn't have a game to go with it. They knew and didn't care.  I still have some 200 NES game boxes stored carefully for when I can get a dedicated game room to display them.  I <3 art on NES and Atari game boxes.  Today's game cover look like crap compared to the old day.

The scary part of GameStop getting into retro games is that they could build a large inventory easily and quickly because they have so many stores. The convenience of bringing a box of old games to a GS at the local mall or nearby strip mall could very well be enough enticement for people to stay away from eBay, Craigslist, independent shops and yard sales. I'm not a big fan of GS, but I have to admit I've purchased a lot of PS2 and GC titles over the years during their Buy 2 Get 1 (and sometimes 2) Free sales. In that respect, the chain has served its purpose.

I worked at gamestop for a bit.

I mostly sat on the counter, played DS, ate chinese food, and told everyone to leave and go to a real game store.  I often referred them to www.videogameconnection.com

I told every customer that our discount card was a joke, reserving games was a waste, and that Game Informer is so slow you can find the same info on the internet ahead of time.

They stopped giving me hours, lol.

The average gamestop employee doesn't know a good vintage game from a dick down their throat.    This should be interesting.

Also, gamestop used to f*cking sell old games.

I remember seeing NES cartridges at gamestop.   This was right before the whole OMG RETRO GAEMGEMMSSSS shit erupted, and Contra 1 for NES was worth 1$

This is going to be great.

There will be copies of mario/duckhunt for 8$

OMG RARE.   CLASSIC GAME.  BUY IT NOW.

I...gee....I don't know what to think about this. I'd be happy if I could walk into more stores and buy some retro games but...I'm sort of worried GameStop will put their horrible stickers on everything which, last time I bought from them at least, were stupidly hard to remove without leaving residue or tearing stuff beneath it apart : >

I don't think they will have any problem at all filling their warehouses with retro games and "getting into the business" but I just see in my mind stuff getting destroyed and/or poorly handled not only by GameStop employees/practices but also by at least some of their customers : /
I mean...why is all used, modern games I buy in so bad shape? Scratched discs, wear and tear on the DVD case, missing pages in the manual etc etc - it's not hard to put the game back in it's case when you take it out of the machine, and then put that case back in the shelf or something.
CHECKPOINT!

I think this will be interesting.

On one hand I believe gamestop sucks like most people.  They release an ad every week and 50 of 52 never have a good sale.  Where as Best Buy or Amazon sometimes you can get a $60 game for $40 one or two weeks after its release.  I know it has been covered and covered but the trade in value is an absolute joke.

I also hate that they open games to put the cases on display.  I reserved DQIX from them to get a plush slime and I went early on release day to pick it up and all they had was open "new" ones.

However back to this specific topic if they already have warehouses with boxes or crates of old stuff just sitting around collecting dust it will be nice to see it hit the market again in some fasion.
Gypsies did it.
