Interesting, so where do they plan on getting their stock of retro games from?  I can't imaging too many people trading in retro games to them now days.  They probably won't be very successful in the retro market.

Maybe one could quietly sell well done repro to GS for more than they really are worth?  NWC cart frequently go for a few thousand dollars, and you can get a repro for $50.

Get a gold Zelda cart, file out opening for the DIP switch, print out nice label to replace Zelda label, handle it a lot to try and make it look about 20 years old. Then sell it to GS and get a few grand. ;)

You can't sell a  repro, because their is an id number located on the carts.
Sometimes I did find bootlegs, being sold, as well, as being advertised in the Funcoland newspaper ( if you remember that ).

There is so much wrong here.  I just think they are hedging their bets prior to the "digital distribution only" wave they fear from the next gen of consoles.  You already see digital offerings at the retail store and I'm yet to see an advantage to buying it there. Maybe some stupid exclusive content..."buy it from GameStop and get the silly string blaster in game!". But really, like somebody mentioned, they had no consideration for the boxes, manuals, etc. which is what their definition of "collectors" would want in order to pay stupid prices in the first place.

I can see Gamestop going the route of Game Crazy, dead on arrival. However, Game Crazy was pretty reasonable towards the end of its career. I got a new Dreamcast with 4 controllers for $30. :) Then again this was 8 years ago, god I'm getting old.

Oh yeah, I remember those Funcoland pricing papers.  I still have some from 98-00.

Those were the good days. When you went inside a store just for video games, people eating lunch behind the counter on the floor,
free instructional manuals, and boxes. You can play Lufia II all day
long, including FFVIII, along with Bubble Bobble. Sometimes the staff
was disrespectful, but that changed, when the blue shirt employees
all turned into green shirts.

Then Gamestop moved, in extended hours, lowered pay. Fired manager, after manager, some who stayed were racist. while others
were cool. One guy cried and begged for his job, and all he could talk about his son, he never sees at home. I remember when the young
fathers were coming in the store, asking "when are they going to port
RE4 to the PS2". That was back when Capcom owned the 3d market,
alongside square ( you know when Square made that dreamishly fantastic RPG "Crono Cross" but it had nothing to do with Trigger.
Then the evil racist manager, would lie about me getting my tee-shirt,
because she gave out all the tee-shirts when people left pre-orders,
instead of when people was picking up the games. Then she said "while supplies last", as an excuse. I even wrote a complaint, and then
she was like oh I remember you, I gave you a shirt ( Lying hate filled
abomination to our way of life ). Then a guy chased me out of the store one time, because me and him had a dialaug ( the guy was swinging at me ) , but I came back and apologize, shortly after.
Then I discovered he was stealing from the store register, when they moved him ( he requested to move back to the mall, instead of the mini-mall area ). He look just like the male character from RE0. With
him was another employee, who usted to work in software etc.
This one manager was a former navy officer, and he was the original Funcoland manager, when he found out he was going to be fired, he open all the draws, turned off all the cameras, and left the store unguarded, This woman who would work in that store, with long red hair, she continued to work in gamestop, becoming a manager, I think
she was around in EBgames for awhile but now she might be gone.
She was like "who told you to lay on my car" and "are you treathing me", that was back when sports was popular.

Yeah I just pretty much went from the funcoland years into gamestop, back to the funcoland years. The coolest thing was the store was like an free arcade.

Another funcoland, we would crack jokes all day long, until they got turned into gamestop. Our store was so peacefull.

Back in April I was searching around town for a used ps2, since mine bit the dust.  There was one gamestop I decided to go in and check out.  The dude working the counter was surprisingly really nice.  Actually knew his shit.  We were then shooting the breeze talking about retro stuff.  He brought up the whole retro game thing and said "Man, I still play my TG-16."  I was mighty impressed.  He then went on and added about the idea gamestop was doing to get into the whole "retro game fad"  This is exactly what he was talking about I guess.  He said, and I quote "It will fail f*cking miserably!"  He said corporate wouldn't eve tell him how they were going to acquire these games when he asked.  They really have no clue.

Gamestop model, should be buy a game, eat a cookie. Buy two games, paint a cookie. buy three games, ride a cookie.

Nah I think they just throw them out in the dumpster, with all the promotional stuff. That is what I heard back then.

I need GameStop to start selling 16-bit stuff. I'm tired of buying games from friends, eBay, shows, etc only to find that they still have boxes and manuals and that nobody has slathered them in difficult to remove stickers. GameStop, save us!
