Heh, no way! This just happened very recently in China! They used a photo of Carl Weathers from the set of the movie "Predator" for Joseph Kony, some guy from a Ugandan guerrilla group (there was a bunch of media attention on him some time back, the Kony 2012 campaign). A friend of mine, D-BOY pointed it out who caught the problem at his job at a Chinese newspaper:

Today this landed on my desk. When I asked why we were using a photo of Apollo Creed/Action Jackson for Joseph Kony, I was informed it was a stock photo of Kony that most Chinese media groups are using.

I hope Carl Weathers isn't living anywhere near a Chinatown or he might have an exceptionally shitty Friday.

This is surprisingly simple. Essentially, people wanting to have fun with their similar taste in fashion started posting photos of Carl Weathers on Facebook and showing how close he looked (arguable) to Joseph Kony. Eventually, this spilled over to Twitter and from there to Sina Weibo.

At some point, people stopped using the comparison and just began posting Carl Weathers and saying it was Joseph Kony.

The text linking temporarily unbalanced the weighted image results on Google and Baidu, and when Chinese media began to report on Kony 2012, the first image they pulled was of Carl Weathers. Since no one here knows the actor, it ended up becoming a file photo since Google is Always Correct.

Film highlights for me would be: Daredevil (pre-dates Sam Jackson in a black actor playing a white character), Scorpion King, and of course Slammin' Salmon! His death is sad news... but how he got into Hollywood was such a great story! 54, way too young.
