the reset switch is a little redundant, as there is a nice reset switch built in to the controller.

Are you serious?  I guess that's what happens when you buy an old used TG16 off eBay with no manual, you don't learn things like the ability to reset using the controller.  I'm assuming it's a special key combination to reset using the controller?

I think you just hold select then hit run, or the other way around. don't feel bad, i had no idea until i did it on accident a few days ago.

Great guide with easy to understand pictures for those who aren't electronic experts.

There's 2 things I've always wondered about TG-16.

1: why did NEC make it huge compared to PCE?  Both are virtually identical at hardware level with only a few differences (built in AV ports on CoreGrafx for example since some expansion do not offer AV ports) so there really was no reason to make TG-16 twice as wide with lots of empty spaces.

2: what are those 2 small break away PCB near TG-16 expansion port for? There's no circuit path connecting to the grid pattern on the small tab, and it looks like tab is easily broken off with no consequences.

2 reasons - take your pick, or mix and match.

1. A requirement for shielding to meet FCC guidelines.
2. American culture at the time was way more focused on "bigger is better".

Holding the Select button while pressing the Run button is indeed the way to Reset but that is cool that you modded your system to include a Reset Button. Thanks for sharing the guides!

Nice pictures man and detail of the mods you have done, I am currently in the middle of doing some of the same mods to one of my TG until I discovered a crack on the board near the controller port which I had to fix first (man what a pain in the ***. Thanks to your post, I will also do the logo mod. Keep up the good work.

Just curious why you didn't consider doing the Svideo mod, from what I have researched it seem to be one of the best Svideo mod, anyways the a/very mod does give a pretty good video.
Looking for TG16 games I don't have already.

I would have except I first read about the TG16 S-Video mod after I completed the A/V mod I did.  Maybe in the future I'll go back and mod it again, but for now the AV mod is pretty good.
