Interest check: Nokia N-Gage gamesystem/phone in retail box
« on: September 14, 2012, 09:50:14 AM »
Have a N-Gage in what appears to be excellent condition, in a retail box with the USB cable and some other items like a spare back piece, carry case, and a software disc and paperwork. No charger is included, though I was able to use my charger from my other Nokia phone and the system started to charge up right away and I was able to play around on it as it charged. I cant say how great the battery is on this as it has to be 7 years old at least. Also, evidently this N-Gage is unlocked, as I was able to pull the old sim card out and put in the one from my current phone service and the N-Gage was able to dial out fine and all off it.

Sonic N game is included with the system.  I only have limited experience with this system and dont know how to utilize all the options, but was able to test the loudspeaker when I dialed out and it worked fine, and the screen is nice and brite and the Sonic game worked fine. A charger for this thing can be purchased for under 6 to 7 bucks, which is also the case for the battery if need be. The battery model type is BL-5C, easily found on Amazon and ebay new. Games for this thing can be downloaded  free on multiple sites these days. I just don't care to bother with this thing, as I am not a cell phone or portable game system fan, though some of the games released for this are supposed to be good, and Sonic def was not too shabby. If anyone is interested in this thing I would be willing to trade it for a couple of TG-16 or PCE games.

I had an N-Gage and I was quite fond of it. Do to it's age, the internet, text messaging, and overall presentation of the phone is just a little outdated. The idea of being able to swap "game cards" was quite an innovation at the time and most of the games were something that most other phones at the time couldn't hope to offer. The original N-Gage offered MP3 playing and had a built in FM tuner. The major downside of the phone was the concept of "side talking". The microphone and earpiece were both on the top of the phone so when making or receiving calls, it looked like you were talking into a taco. You also had  to turn off the phone and remove the battery to access and change game cards.

The N-Gage QD was Nokia's supposed  "upgrade" to the phone. It was smaller, offered an easier to decipher keyboard (when playing games), had a more comfortable and usable D-pad, and had a longer battery life. It also included a button that could be pressed that would automatically start a game when a game card was inserted without having to navigate the menus to get to the games icon. Game card access was moved to the outside of the phone so you could "hot swap" the game card without shutting off the phone. The MP3 player and FM tuner were removed from the design to lower the price of the phone. The full color menus were also replaced with black and orange themed menus. The rubber ring that encircled the outer edge of the phone was also notorious for stretching and deforming over time from the heat and moisture of your hands when holding it as well as opening the dust flap covering the charger and game card slot.

The phone had a decent roster of 53 games that ranged from FPS, Racing, Strategy, Action, and RPG. Some of the more popular games was Elder Scrolls, Rifts, Warhammer 30,000, and Ashen. The phone was also capable of playing java phone games and apps rasing the total number of games/apps for the phone to over 1000+ (estimated).

The phone is still nice nowadays, but it isn't good for anything but playing N-Gage games and making phone calls now. Don't think internet is even possible on them now either.

Didn't want to push possible interest away from your topic, but figured I'd give a short description of the phones so people know what your offering.

Yeah I dont know much about this thing as far as the nitty gritty goes, so I appreciate your post. Someone I know had one prior and had many games for it. To be honest the games were not too bad depending on the title being played. The 2d stuff in general was pretty solid, and a couple of 3d titles were what seemed like PS1 quality to me. I am not sure of the quality of the MP3 player on this thing. If I remember right this thing used MMC cards which are dirt cheap. I have the earphone headphone thing with this, which I guess is supposed to make talking on it easier then using the loud speaker. When my friend had his the couple of times I used it to make a call I used the loudspeaker, which is what I did today.
