BL, just want to say, that I am impressed by your daring ambition!  The name "Burnt Lasagna" will be the scourge of all men to come!

NW, yeah, I know, I really wanted to!  I just had a hard time figuring anything to say.  I had the same problem with the Mysterious Song DVD, I just couldn't think of anything that I could've put on there.  I'm pretty sure with Jungle Bros. I'll be able to talk about my music a bit though.  Maybe I'll think of something...& then BL can update the Readme!

Edit-ok, I can't seem to find my patched version of Ys 4, & I can't get the text patched.  Is says it to use Patchbak.bat if Patch.bat doesn't work, but the file from NW's site doesn't have Patchbak.bat.  Basically, when I click on Patch.bat, it says it's incompatible with 64-bit versions of Windows, & to contact the vendor!    I know I played thru this game way back in english, but maybe the text patch has a problem with Windows 7?

Awesome work guys!!! I will have to play through this again. I played through it once using just the text translation before. I really cannot remember the story or plot from the game at all. Maybe it's because I kept going back to my PC to read all the spoken dialog. Wonder if I was drinking when I played it last as well??

Ok, I ended up using PPF-o-matic or whatever it's called to apply the text patch to the first data file(wasn't sure if I needed to do it to the second), & got the dub patch applied, dopeness!

PD, can you download the patch again and run "patchbak.bat" to test my fix? Good call, thanks for pointing that out. I guess I got confident with HL.COM (fancy menu, but pure DOS based which I guess 64-bit Windows rejects) and deleted "patchbak.bat" some time back. I found an old copy of this patch in another old folder which had "batchbak.bat" in there so I didn't have to rewrite it. Anyhow, this should allow it to patch on 64-bit Windows without having to grab the GUI-o-matic version. Extract the new cab in the same folder as the ISO again and doubleclick "patchbak.bat" - it's no problem that it'll be repatching over.

Now looking into Keranu's problem with the dub patch...

I've tried moving the wavs from the patch folder into my Ys IV rip folder and renaming the files to match the rest of the them but I get the same problem. My rip is also the HCD3051-4-1108-R1F version that the readme recommends, so why would Patcher.cmd be looking for the other version?

OK, here's a hot fix to try. The dub patch didn't work for me either. Download the Zip file and extract it into the patch folder: it has 2 files, a new "Patcher.cmd" and "FileBySize.exe". Then double-click patcher to run it and go from there. I think that should do it for now.

Hey, i had the same issue that Keranu had a couple time.  I thought maybe I was doing something wrong.  I ended up ripping my translated image with TR, then actually placing all the files into the patch folder, without having them in their own folder.  For whatever reason, it then worked fine.  I then since checked it's TOC, and its correct. TR sees it as Ys IV as well. It also works great in my Duo burned to disc.

Bernie, can you rip a fresh image of Ys IV and try again using my hot fix ?? Wanna get extra verification before giving Mike the OK to make a whole new big zip file, just in case you run into another problem and there's a chance to fix it before updating the whole zip file, etc.

I got the patches working, and I've burned a CD to play on my actual PC Engine. This is outstanding work! Definitely feels like a decent '90s dub!

Great to know that this works as expected on real hardware! I was never able to test it my self, guess this reconfirms that mednafen works great for testing audio issues, on and off the actual TG-CD.

That worked every time.  The only time it does not work, is if I copy the entire folder into the patch directory.  I needed to actually move all the files themselves into the patch folder.  If I left them in their own folder, it would not work.  No biggie really, just a step some may be overlooking.  Anyway, I have tried it several times, with your new files added to the patch folder, and it has worked every time with no issues.  This being on the rip, Ys IV - The Dawn of Ys (HCD3051-4-1108-R1F). I have not messed with the other rip version mentioned in the thread.

Thanks Bernie, yeah, the new batch file checks out on my Windows 2000 Virtual PC instance as well and it now works every time on my normal Vista installation. Only problem on Window 2000 was xdelta which is compiled to probably only work on Windows XP SP-3 and up/Vista/7, etc. I believe I also know what the problem was with Arjak as well: xdelta has a dependency on the MS "C" Runtime library (MSVCR100.DLL). That's the missing DLL he was likely talking about.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to include it actually with the exe - scratch that, this thing was compiled with Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 which is pretty new (Vista includes the 2005 runtimes by default, not this!) - a lot of people are gonna have this problem... meh, they should've complied it statically, I'll look around their site, they got lots of different binaries.

In the meantime, additional instructions are to have installed the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) available here:

It's only a 5 meg download and it'll drop the needed file in your system folder basically.

The patch worked just fine for me with Windows 7 and the (HCD3051-4-1108-R1F) disc.

Here was my process in Windows 7

1st. Rip original YsIV CD using turborip beta 1.1a
2nd. Download the YsIV translated text patch http://www.ysutopia.net/downloads/ys4/YsIV(US)v95.cab
3rd. Extract the YsIV Cab file using 7-zip
4th. Place all the files from the extracted cab into the Turborip folder that contains all of the YSIV ripped files.
5th. Hit patch. This will patch the text first.
6th. Extract the files from the YsIV dubbing file using 7-zip
7th. Move all of the files from the Ripped turborip folder(now translated text) to the dubbed Patch folder.
8th. Hit patcher to install the dubbing
9th. Burn CD with nero(or program of your choice) by using the CUE file Ys IV - The Dawn of Ys {HCD3051-4-1108-R1F} (J)
