Halloween games back then was the closest thing to horror, as the 1980's wained, male fictional
material became weaker, and divided into two groups. Horroe and sci-fi.
Halloween was the only thing where a kid, could be invovled and has nothing to do with gang,
sex, violence, or anything like that. You know the ficitonal Dracula we all know, Darkstalkers basically.
So that is why their are many US halloween games.

About Japan. You see magical chase, with the standard witch and pumpkin getup,
but that is RPG with a "Quest" turn-over, themed game. Horror-story along with splatterhouse are basically mimicing horror themed ideas. where halloween usually comes about. Then their is
the candle ghost/shrine maiden thing that has to do with their religion, and various spirit fesitvals that are year round ( like Tenchi ). In fiction Halloween themed fights like Dirty Pair
vs the Terminator, and their are a bunch of Halloween related things.
The same with ghostbusters, could be said, as well.
Ghouls and ghosts is the standard ancient time themed gameplay, but redifined. Don't you just love that theme, of ghouls and ghosts.
Samurai ghost is more or less related to some cultureal and relgious belief. You can see the reused/ rehased map in SG, used in various war games/
