R is probably the best unit for most people. Black duos are pretty sexy and do have the headphone jack with volume control on the side but you will need to replace the capacitors as they are failing on almost every system by now if they haven't been replaced yet. Duo-Rs haven't had this problem and are probably the least fussy system to get. I got mine from DoujinDance a couple years ago and he did a nice job with the RGB mod and it was a clean system with new laser.
He also does region mods but I think he uses a analog switch. The region mod chip that BlueBMW made last year is a better option if you need a region mod. There are several members here who can perform cap replacements and region mods if you need that done.

I have owned both units and they both play discs great and you really can't tell the difference in noise level. Just pick which you prefer the look of but yeah just keep in mind the cap issue  with the black duo.

i think the black had less jailbar issue, but that could just be the cap upgrade.

The duo series can play all the game express games, but in comparison they are all nice systems to choose from, So just follow your heart.

Doujindance does occasionally sell the original black Duo's, he does recap them but only the audio caps and ones related to the CD, he doesn't do the entire system. Not sure if this will be a problem or not in the long term. The good news is that he sells them cheaper as there's not as much demand for them.

I do like the original Duo's and wanted one for myself, but I ended up with a Duo-R as that's what was available at the time, and I think they look nice in white anyhow. It hasn't arrived yet but should be here tomorrow or the next day.

Re the region mod, what's the difference between an analog and digital switch?

anolog switch is a misnomer.
the types are chip and direct.
the chip type can be better, depending on the chip used and keeping the data lines short.
the direct requires a huge switch, and excessive wire

Okay, thanks for the clarification Steve.

As long as it works I don't really care. :)

I have both the duo i had to do a full re-cap and change the cd lens working perfect now, the duo-r works perfect as it is but if i had to pick one on looks the duo wins hands down cool looking black console and it will suit all your needs so get one that has been re-capped.

But if you want looks the supergrafx is a dame nice looking console i want one.
I always wanted a thing called tuna sashemie

It looks like it sold - probably because it included the English-version Dungeon Explorer II which has inexplicably jumped in price very recently.   :?

I believe that at least 2 copies of Dungeon Explorer II have sold for $400+ in the last 10 days.
