Low volume after tapping sound from expansion port
« on: October 05, 2012, 03:24:52 PM »
Hello. I just got a white PCE, and it came with no RF, so i looked around the net, and found that i could get the audio/video signals from the expansion port. The video is fine, but  sound volume is very low. I connected it with another consoles RF, and the sound is normal that way. Do i need to add something to the audio cables to get higher volume?. I did something similar with a Sega Master System 2, and i have the same problem.
Thanks in advance guys.

Yeah it needs an amp.  I tried making an op amp but didn't have much success so I just turned up the volume on my sound system instead.

hmm that's odd. I've tapped the expansion port for audio before and never really noticed a big drop in volume. It's a little quieter but not enough to demand the need of an amp.

Same here, but I suppose it depends on what kind of device you hook it to. On my receiver, I think I turn the volume up to a level in the 30's, where most of my louder systems stay in the 20's. Considering the receiver's max level is 80, this isn't a huge concern to me.

If it were being hooked straight into the TV, I could see it causing issues.

I have all my consoles connected to the same tv. All of the consoles using their original cables, are used around volume 25. But the PCE and a PAL Sega Master Sytem 2, both of which have video and sound tapped from the motherboard and expansion port. I have to use the sound volume around 60 with both of them.
Oh well, no biggie anyway. Thanks for the answers.
