I'm PUMPED for this.

After the US anime industry nearly implodes on itself, Discotek is turning into the best translation company in its history.

I used to try to run home from the bus stop to catch Tranzor Z after school. I'll have to check it out to see if it holds up for my adult self. Sadly, most of the stuff I used to watch is better left in the past (I'm looking at you, Voltron.)

The entirety of Mazinger Z is vastly more interesting than the entirety of Golion. Golion is actually really shitty and nonsensically violent to a point of silliness. The other half a Voltron, Dairugger, is WAY better from a storyline perspective but still not that interesting. Both shows are quite simplistic and idiotic considering they were made post-Gundam/Macross.

As for dubbed versions...I don't know. I think only a fraction of Mazinger was ever translated and shown as Tranzor so its probably not worth much.

This set will be Mazinger and complete. Its a fascinatingly f-ed up show.

Anyone who likes Mazinger should damn well watch the 2009 re-boot TV series. That thing is one of the best shows in the last 20 years.

I just read up on Wikipedia about Golion, Dairugger, and Voltron. Very interesting, I had no idea.

You didn't know that about voltron etc !? Just like today when a anime is brought over for u.s television the shows were often butcher.Still i am grateful for discotek media bringing over anime from the 70's&80's,in it's original form and none of this censor crap.

I wondered about that one. I will have to give it a chance.

I knew that it was originally from Japan, and that cuts had been done, but I didn't know that things had been completely rewritten, and that the vehicle Voltron was from a completely different series.

I watched the first few eps of Golion on Youtube last night, it certainly flows much better than I remember. The constant reusing of animation, while not as bad as US Voltron, is bugging the hell out of me.

Yeah i didn't know that either when i use to watch both voltron shows,as a kid.Looking at it now 'the most good thing i can say about it is the music.I been meaning to pick up "golion and armored fleet dairugger" on dvd to see the differences for myself.

I'm not sure exactly how I figured it out, but as a kid I was always aware of the Japanese origins of shows like Battle of the Planets, Ulysses, Voltron, etc. Maybe my mother explained it to me, but once I knew what anime looked like it was always easy to pick the stuff out.

I remember Tranzor Z but never saw much of it. This box set will be the perfect way to revisit this series.

Zeta mentioned Battle of the Planets above. Is there a definitive box set for that show? And how about Star Blazers (Space Battleship Yamato)??

They (along with Voltron) have full episodes up on Youtube posted by the company that has the rights. The quality of the DVDs are probably much better though.

I normally am not for censorship, but there's plenty of things in the Japanese version that my 5 year old self probably shouldn't have been exposed to. They really have no problems whatsoever with mercilessly killing people in this one, they even had someone commit suicide in the last episode I watched.
