So after several attempts to get MP Prime, I finally showed up early on a shipping day at a local TRU. It was crazy, there was actually a small crowd outside. I knew there was only 2 coming in, and as soon as the doors opened we all rushed in. I didn't want to run and look like a complete idiot, but I kept a fast pace. Finally made it to the Transformer isle, and there it was! Luckily I got my hands on one.

A very nice lady helped me out, she actually gave me her friends and family discount, so I ended up getting this for $79.99!!!! Super stoked about that.

So today I decided to take Prime out, make sure there weren't any defects that I have been hearing about. I decided to also do some comparison pics to give people an idea of the scale. This 2012 MP Prime is in-between sizes from the original G1 Reissue Prime and the 20th Anniversary Prime. It is actually cool because this scale fits in better with some of my other MP toys. Some of you might wish he was bigger, but I really like this size.

The coloring on this prime is spot on, you will notice how orange the 20th Anniversary edition looks compare to this one. I have heard people comment on this before and it never really bothered me until now. This Prime also ships with nice large smokestacks. Now my 20th Anniversary has a smokestack upgrade, but originally it had stacks just as bad as the G1 Reissue. The new MP Prime makes the others pale in comparison out of the box! Thanks Hasbro for finally releasing Prime as he should be, which nice looking "stacks" and not little stubs you have been previously releasing!

MP Prime feels pretty lite, some my be dissapointed by this. I actually am fine with it because it helps with his poseability. The 20th Anniversary Prime can be difficult for poses because of how heavy he is. The kick pose below would be very hard to pull off for 20th Anniversary Prime. So yes he is a little on the lite side (especially to the monster 20th Anniversary) but I think it works.

You also get Roller, it is much nicer looking compared to the G1 Reissue. Spike is also included, he doesn't have any face details painted on but no biggie. You can throw him in the Truck or in Roller.

Prime's Gun is black, pretty standard, you can see a size comparison below to the 20th Anniversary edition. The Energon Axe is actually bigger than the 20th Anniversary edition! This guy packs a pretty hefty Energon punch!!! Also included is the Matrix of leadership, all these accessories are pretty standard but it would have been disappointing if it wasn't included.

Overall this Prime is a must have. The transformation I think is much easier than 20th Anniversary edition. It looks nice in both Robot and Vehicle mode. The truck mode looks so much nicer from the side compared to 20th Edition (looks like it is missing a panel). The legs were a little difficult to keep completely close together, this is minor but a little annoying. The Trailer connects in an interesting way to the truck, uses two slots that plug into grooves, a little different from the other trailers that I have for previous Primes. This is also the first Prime I own that has side mirrors in truck mode. I forgot to pull them out when taking the truck photos, but it is a really nice detail.

Robot mode is just amazing, I love the poseability of this prime. You do have to be careful with the pointer finger, if you move it too far back it can pop off. I have heard that some of these had an issue with the hip swivel, mine had no problems and felt nice and tight. In the instructions it shows that the smoke stacks move up and down, I just left it up in both modes because it looks pretty awesome either way.

This prime is awesome, I have previously purchased a 3rd party trailer for $60. While it was really high quality (and fit my with my Classics G1 Prime) when you look at what you are getting in the 2012 Hasbro Prime you realize what a good deal this is. This is a no-brainer, go out and pick one up.

Well there is my mini review, now on to the photos.

So here is the order of the photos:

G1 Reissue Prime       /        2012 Masterpiece Prime  /      Prime 20th Anniversary DVD Edition

I have seen several requests how the new MP Prime compares to MP Rodimus. My Rodimus is sealed, so here is the best I could do. I gave Prime a small platform to make it a more fair comparison since Rodimus is slightly raised by the packaging.

This Prime can do some pretty cool poses like this kick

Here is a comparison snap of 20th Anniversary gun VS the 2012 Masterpiece gun

This is a comparison of the 20th Anniversary Axe VS the 2012 Masterpiece gun. The crazy thing is the larger Axe is actually the 2012 Masterpiece Axe.

Ok well after the wife found out that I bought this and how much it cost she said it will be a Christmas present and to not open it up. Dang it is going to be so hard to wait for 2 1/2 months before I open this one up again....

He's cool and all, but mostly for the trailer. Other than that I'd say the MP-01 crushes this plastic twerp.

Truck mode looks much nicer on new version, but head looks much worse.

Does the new one still have working suspension?

Btw, the gun for my MP-01 isn't in those fruity colors. I have a Japanese version (long stacks and no damage, chrome fuel tanks).

Lol at the clever swap out in the package. Whats funny is people actually do this for real on the Joe stuff to rip off stores on returns.

I'd like to see a picture of him next to MP Grimlock.  I always think of Grimlock as being bigger then Optimus, Hot Rod, etc.

Checked the Porter Ranch one yesterday on the way home from a trip, they had none, & their shipment comes in on thursdays, not wednesday like my usual TRU ](*,)  Anyways, I went into my nearest TRU today, & nothing had come in, so, I guess gotta try again next week.  I did get the Asia Exclusive Laserbeak though, he's pretty sweet for a repaint, totally reminds me of Laserbeak before coming to earth, it doesn't show it here, but you can have his robot feet out in vehicle mode to simulate Lazerbeaks talons.

Transformers and turbografx has always been my addiction over the years. I just can't seem to grow out of it no matter how hard I try so I gave up on trying.

Yeah, I dig him.  I actually already have that particular mold from whichever movie line it was a part of, just cuz I thought it was a neat mold, but I like this one way better due to the color scheme.
