Did you guys saw the Retron 5 console in action at the MGC? Can't find any gameplay videos of it yet...

yeah, i actually had a bit of a conversation with one of the hyperkin guys.
i will say that i was impressed by the controller, it was a hell of a lot more comfortable and usable than it looked.
it looks like this one will be worth picking up, they had it running Street Fighter Alpha 2, which i know has been one of those "problem" games for clones in the past, thanks to the SDD-1 chip on the inside.

aside from that, i did find one bit of our conversation very interesting.
according to him, the finished product will be able to transfer save files between real carts and emulators via SD and USB.

knowing what i do, i'll probably pick one up when they drop, i might even do a bit of a review for the nice folks around here.

Posted all my MGC stuff in the what did you buy today thread...

Here's my photos from the weekend:

This is Philip Ahn - the guy who played Shang Tsung in MK2. I resisted the urge to superimpose "FRIENDSHIP" on it.

Lightgun room setup...

DHG room setup...

Up to Par Tourney - I think Mati said this kid won your Devil's Crush tourney a couple years ago. He did pretty awesome at this tourney actually.

Lightgun room in action early on - we got swamped all weekend, almost to the point where I think it scared people away (either that or the horrific geek stink in the room)

Rrrrrrrrright........

More lightgun room...

Best cosplay I saw there all weekend. Lighting is bad in this shot but it looked damn near perfect in real life - dude even spoke with a British accent.

Video - quick pan of the Lightgun Room:

We got a shit ton of questions about the random GunCon2 clone I picked up on eBay (has recoil, full auto, a pedal and a laser sight - huge hit at the show) - you can buy them here for pretty cheap:

RetroN 5 they had there was an early prototype, but yeah, like Jeff said they wanted to show off some of the problem games for past after-market consoles so Street Fighter Alpha 2 was on display all show long.  The guys at Hyperkin were even kind enough to let me win both of my matches I played, heh.  Emulation was basically perfect, and they had an SDTV and HDTV side-by-side so people could see that the picture was pretty good between the two sets.

Overall it was a pretty interesting console.  I'll probably have to pick up one!

On another note, if you guys are interested in doing a PC Engine FX room, let me know and I"ll see if we can make that happen.

Later.

I would be pretty interested in this, assuming others were as well.  (I wouldn't want to be 'tied down' to one room for the whole convention.)  How expensive was it to reserve a room this year?

What we really need is an open space with areas, that'd be kind of the holy grail for MGC, IMHO. The room thing gets way too cramped/crowded. When those things are busy you can barely walk.
