I've been thinking about recording some of my gaming sessions so I hooked up my Canon HV30 camcorder to the TG-16 last night and tinkered around with it.
Blazing Lazers levels 1 and 2:
Be warned, this is me playing while watching the tiny fold out screen on the camera itself - definitely not ideal. The screen is slightly smaller than a TurboExpress.
But I think the capture quality is stupendous.
I went to Radio Shack today and picked up a few RCA Y-Adapters to run a signal from the TG-16 to both the TV and camera simultaneously, but the capture quality took a major hit and when I did a test run with Air Zonk; the colors were all wonky (flip-flopped between way too bright and way too dark). Final Solder didn't have the color wonkiness, but just wasn't as crisp as Blazing Lazers.
Tried hooking the TG-16 up to the camera and directly into my computer, but that didn't take either. I guess the camera has to be recording to the tape (I was hoping I could do a pass-through) for it to send the picture to the monitor. And it was delayed anyway, so meh.
Then I tried hooking the TG-16 up to the camera using the hdmi port on the camera out to our high-def TV, but that didn't work either.
So I guess if I want to record my game sessions right now, I either get used to playing on a really tiny screen or getting crummy (possibly unusable) quality using y adapters.
Do any of you guys ever record your gameplay? If so, how? (Mods - should I move this to a new thread?)
