Playing PCE ISOs on a PSP. How do you get started?
« on: February 18, 2006, 07:53:54 AM »
Need some info on that. Anybody here with a PSP that's already gotten a CD game working using a 1 GB memory stick and what not with whichever emulator, HUE, or PCEP, etc.?? Specifically, how should the ISO be prepared, BIN/CUE, ISO/WAV/CUE, etc. and then zipped up?? That's the main aspect of what I need to know is how to prepare the image. Thanks.

(This is for someone else btw. Documentation appears to be scarce (I'm still googling though) and I don't have a PSP myself, so I can't test any of these Japanese emulator ports for it...)

Sweet.  I have a friend with a PSP who would love to play PCE games on it.  If you can give me the 411 on it later on, I'll pass it off to him. :)

Sorry, but I don't see your library card on the books of Ys.  Now, RETURN THEM TO ME!!!

Sure, actually. I succeeded in helping this guy get it working today and I wrote a guide in the process. This is specifically on how to get Dracula X running, but with the TOC database and a CD, it can apply to all. Check the 2nd post:

Dude paid me for the help, so I had to make an honest effort at tech support for this. ;) I don't own a PSP, and I'll likely never buy one, so it was a bit aggravating for me feeling obligated to help cause he came out of nowhere and dropped a Hamilton onto my paypal account. So I'm like alright, I'll do my best, check my contacts, google 'round, and see what I can find, etc.

The Japanese ReadMe for PCEP just needs a good translator is the thing. The instructions are right there, and I was at least able to verify the track file naming aspect to the problem with it, which was key. I ran some of the text through the known popular machine translation sites, but as usual, you're only gonna get worthless Engrish.

So you can actually play through emulators using mp3's?  Wow, That means you can probably fit about 10 or 12 games on a 1gb stick. That's pretty nice.

Now all we need is better step by step instructions on how to play roms on actual hardware by changing the roms included on the 4-in-1 Gates/Bonk/Revenge/Bomberman CD.

Yeah, and since you provide it the TOC data from an original CD-ROM, it will not suffer from the usual problems that ISO/MP3/CUE archives have with altered sector offsets causing crashes, lip syncing errors, etc. The rest will all depend on how good the emulator is.

Hi,

Sorry if this is a very basic question - but can you emulate cd games (in windows) using iso+mp3 not a full image? Hu-Go says on its site that it can, but it seems to completely ignore the mp3's and just run the data in the iso files.

I have no trouble decompressing the mp3->wav, building an image (with correct TOC/CUE) and playing with Hugo/Magic Engine, but I would prefer to keep them in mp3 format if possible.

I've googled for this, and seen you can do it on a PSP, but am baffled that I can't do it with any of the other emus. Hugo confuses me as it states it supports it....

Thanks.

Yeah, it does. Two possible formats that I know of. Basically, you need to make a special Hugo specific CUE file. CDDissect can do this for an XBOX version which may also apply to all versions. You insert your disc, and run it. The CUE file that it dumps will look like this:

Quote
FILE "dracula_x01.mp3" BINARY
TRACK 1 AUDIO
INDEX 1 00:00:00
FILE "dracula_x02.iso" BINARY
TRACK 2 MODE1/2352
INDEX 1 00:51:65
FILE "dracula_x03.mp3" BINARY
TRACK 3 AUDIO
INDEX 1 03:09:14
FILE "dracula_x04.mp3" BINARY
TRACK 4 AUDIO
INDEX 1 04:55:48
FILE "dracula_x05.mp3" BINARY
TRACK 5 AUDIO
INDEX 1 05:58:67
FILE "dracula_x06.mp3" BINARY
TRACK 6 AUDIO
INDEX 1 07:35:09
FILE "dracula_x07.mp3" BINARY
TRACK 7 AUDIO
INDEX 1 08:58:61
FILE "dracula_x08.mp3" BINARY
TRACK 8 AUDIO
INDEX 1 10:03:35
FILE "dracula_x09.mp3" BINARY
TRACK 9 AUDIO
INDEX 1 13:01:60
FILE "dracula_x10.mp3" BINARY
TRACK 10 AUDIO
INDEX 1 14:45:28
FILE "dracula_x11.mp3" BINARY
TRACK 11 AUDIO

FILE "dracula_x14.mp3" BINARY
TRACK 14 AUDIO
INDEX 1 24:05:69
FILE "dracula_x15.mp3" BINARY
TRACK 15 AUDIO
INDEX 1 27:45:51
FILE "dracula_x16.mp3" BINARY
TRACK 16 AUDIO
INDEX 1 30:11:10
FILE "dracula_x17.mp3" BINARY
TRACK 17 AUDIO
INDEX 1 33:26:56
FILE "dracula_x18.mp3" BINARY
TRACK 18 AUDIO
INDEX 1 34:56:29
FILE "dracula_x19.mp3" BINARY
TRACK 19 AUDIO
INDEX 1 36:38:49

FILE "dracula_x21.mp3" BINARY
TRACK 21 AUDIO
INDEX 1 42:40:12
FILE "dracula_x22.iso" BINARY
TRACK 22 MODE1/2352
INDEX 1 46:56:62

Every index line will have the original LBA information in H:M:S format so the game will work properly.

You download CDDissect here:

http://nick.serveblog.net/forums/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=23.0;attach=33

If you don't have the original to rip from, you can use the TOC Database to help make one observing the format from the examples (now two) I quoted.

Next, if that is the wrong format, I did once make a perl script to generate a HCD file for me for use with some version of Hugo!. That format actually looks like this:

Quote
[track1]
filename=DRACX_01.mp3
begin=lsn,0

[track2]
type=CODE
filename=DRACX_02.ISO
begin=lsn,3890

[track3]
filename=DRACX_03.mp3
begin=lsn,14189

[track4]
filename=DRACX_04.mp3
begin=lsn,22173

[track5]
filename=DRACX_05.mp3
begin=lsn,26917

[track6]
filename=DRACX_06.mp3
begin=lsn,34134

[track7]
filename=DRACX_07.mp3
begin=lsn,40411

[track8]
filename=DRACX_08.mp3
begin=lsn,45260

[track9]
filename=DRACX_09.mp3
begin=lsn,58635

[track10]
filename=DRACX_10.mp3
begin=lsn,66403

[track11]
filename=DRACX_11.mp3
begin=lsn,78455

[track12]
filename=DRACX_12.mp3
begin=lsn,86083

[track13]
filename=DRACX_13.mp3
begin=lsn,97368

[track14]
filename=DRACX_14.mp3
begin=lsn,108444

[track15]
filename=DRACX_15.mp3
begin=lsn,124926

[track16]
filename=DRACX_16.mp3
begin=lsn,135835

[track17]
filename=DRACX_17.mp3
begin=lsn,150506

[track18]
filename=DRACX_18.mp3
begin=lsn,157229

[track19]
filename=DRACX_19.mp3
begin=lsn,164899

[track20]
filename=DRACX_20.mp3
begin=lsn,173900

[track21]
filename=DRACX_21.mp3
begin=lsn,192012

[track22]
type=CODE
filename=DRACX_22.ISO
begin=lsn,211262

That's an original for Dracula X that would work. Use notepad, paste all that in and save it as "DRACX.HCD" or whatever.
