Any interest in new replacement HUcard cases?
« on: November 26, 2012, 08:29:30 AM »
I have been contemplating modeling up the HUcard tray and clip and seeing what it would cost to have them tooled up to make some new ones.  I would appreciate some feedback on whether people would even be interested in them and what they would be willing to pay. I know most people (myself included) just get a few extra copies TV Sports Football or World Class Baseball and use those but they will not be plentiful forever.

There is actually a guy looking into that now.  :)  https://www.seymoronion.com/index.html  Really cool guy to deal with too.

I'd love 'em!  Any style would be great, but I'd prefer the latter PCE huey type that fits in standard jewel cases to the US huey type, and even less preferable is the clipless PCE type.

I am in disagreement with his current plan, and wish he'd consider skipping his interim step of a modified CD case. Quick explanation, he wants to make a CD tray style insert for a standard CD case, which has an instruction style clasp to hold the HuCard. Then, he wants to move into full reproduction of the original style of cases.

Essentially, you need to have a TON of cases made to make it cost effective. Thus, by promising original style cases, he is reducing the amount of people who will pay for these non-original-style cases, leaving him with a massive unsold quantity, which reduces his capital to spend on the original style (OS), reducing the chance of OS cases ever being made. Then, if or when he gets the capital to make OS cases, the NOS cases will never sell. Why buy a NOS case when OS cases are available?

Don't get me wrong, he is an awesome dude, and I love his hucard sleeves. I just wish he'd consider the fault of starting with a case that is overall less important to the turbografx community.
Hey, you.

I have seen that (I have even bought his great sleeves) but I prefer the real TG-16 style case with the clip.  The PCE/Keith Courage style would be a little cheaper but if I am going to bother with it I want to go all the way and have the correct style made.

I'd be down for some.  I'm still reluctant to cannibalize my TV Sports games for some reason.  I think you would find a lot of people on here that would buy say a half dozen or more, but I can't speak as to how cost effective that will be for you.

I am sure if you did a BiN on ebay w/ some, similar to what Seymor does w/ his sleeves you would be able to move some there too.
Gypsies did it.

I decided to go ahead and make a solid model of the back case; I'll do the clip tonight. I can then find out how much it will cost to tool the pieces up.  The piece price will be cheap even at lower volumes, it's the tooling that will be expensive.

What did you use to model that in?  Any chance the files will be available ?

This looks AWESOME, however I must admit, the Sparky labels would go on WAY smoother if the hollow parts on the bottom weren't there.

Either way, I plan to buy a ton of these if you make them!

Solidworks.  If I don't go through with the project I'll post them.

I have though about modifying the case a bit but you can't really just fill that in solid.  I could redesign it so there is a separate piece that snaps over the hollow section but that's just another part to tool up.

If you decide to make these, would you make extra clips as well to replace those that are broken in our old cases?
