WTB NES in time for Xmas!
« on: December 11, 2012, 08:39:49 AM »
I wanna get my 10-year-old brother an NES for Xmas.  I contemplated getting him a clone, but I worry about compatibility & quality issues.  All I need is the system, power adapter, AV cables, one or two controllers, and a few run-of-the-mill NES games (super Mario bros 1/3, Legend of Zelda, Metroid, etc.) The only catch is, I need the NES10 chip disabled. Please let me know if you have one for sale!

Those clones are ok.  The RetroN 3 is really nice.

I dunno.  It's got quite a few bad reviews on amazon relating to it not working.  I don't want to have a repeat of last year's xmas present (I bought him an N64, which ultimately fried because my stepfather got an unofficial memory expansion for it after I specifically advised him against it. -_- )

Which expansion pack? The Yobo one? I have one, and it works awesome, and I also have a Yobo Guncon 2 for Time Crisis 3 on PS2. :D

This one here.  http://hyperkin.com/retro-gaming/retro-system-retron3.html

I have had a couple, raffled one off here in the forums.  It was a very nice clone, and I never had issues with it.  Plus, it allows for original controllers.

That may be inexpensive, but its still not perfect, and it's nothing like playing the real system. :)

I got my Toaster NES from eBay with Zelda and Mario for $35, which is a good deal for that site. :)

That's pretty cool, even has Genesis support. I just learned of these actually, saw one called the "Retro Duo" (ring a bell anyone?) for $60 bucks that was a basic NES+SNES combo. They should've built 'em with Component, didn't look like it from what I saw though. I was actually interested in it to see if I could mod it given what I did to my SNES...

You're better off with the clones than an original actually given the push down tray system and the untold amount of cart connection problems they caused. The clone, or the newer model Nintendo released. I have the original model, but you wouldn't want it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retro_Duo (Looks like it has high marks for its compatibility.)

I wish there was something called the Retro Duo that played Turbo Duo games.  Such a tease....
