Really dead Super System Card 3.0
« on: February 27, 2006, 10:38:26 AM »
I ended up buying a Turbo Grafx 16 + CD it came with a bunch of games and two system cards the 2.0 and 3.0 cards. The 2.0 card works fine the 3.0 card doesn't load all I get is a white screen. I've tried cleaning the card and the system and it still doesn't work. I was wondering if the japanese 3.0 cards will work in an US system. Also wondering if anyone else has had a dead 3.0 card. I'm going to take it apart so I can really clean the card slot really well wish me luck.

Update:

Well I cleaned the card and the system really well still didn't work so I decided to open the card up since it was broken anyway. Did confirm the card was bad the legs on one of the chips had separte from the card on all the other chips including one side of this chip the legs are sealed in a hard black substance I figure to prevent damage, I'm guessing they missed one side.

Japanese system cards will not work on a US system.

Hmm, I wonder if maybe you have a Japanese 3.0 card, hence why you're getting that white screen.  Did it come with a case, I can't recall, but I think the US & Jp cards looks the same, is there english all over the back of the card, or is it mostly japanese?

The card has english writing and it says Turbo Grafx on the back, just doesn't seem to work. I'm going to try clean the system some more I was wondering if these card have a high failure rate or if I'm just unlucky.

That's odd, I've just never heard of a 3.0 card just dying, which, I'm sure can happen as things age.  Just be careful with your cleaning, I'm always paranoid about making something worse, rather then better when trying to get something to work right.

When I first got my PCE+CDROM2, I tried loading a Japanese Super System Card 3.0 and it had problems booting up as well. There was some sticky stuff on the card, so I cleaned it all off with my shirt and just nicely rubbed on the pins and what not and it worked afterwards.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Don't worry about cleaning the card. You can't damage it unless you're an idiot.

Either take a regular pencil eraser and rub it on the pins, or take some alcohol on a piece of cloth and rub it with that.

Too bad your system card is a dead, but can you post some pics of it?

I love to see the innards of that card.

Sure I'll try posting it tomorrow if I can find the memory card for my digital camera.

A Japanese Sys 3.0 card will work if the TG16 is modded for region switching.
