playing pc engine cd roms in a cd player?

hello,

i wonder if it is possible to play pc engine cd roms in a cd player and listen to the games soundtracks?
i remember doing it once with an old sony tape&cd player and it did work but with our new cd player it does not work.

any recommendations which cd player plays best?

Yes, absolutely. Usually, you simply skip track 2 (data).

Track 1  = warning
Track 2 = data
Track 3+ = songs/cinema soundtrack

HOWEVER, somme discs ALTERNATE Red Book and DATA tracks for 3-XX
ALSO, final track sometimes DATA (redundancy)

yeah, unfortunately some newer CD players and PC cd-roms do refuse the play of obey discs due to an unproper use of the red book audio format or such.
however some smartass players will still play it on your PC

I have not had any issues lately with any of my players.  When in doubt, take the disc to a friend's house and try it on some of thier players.

Not directly the question you asked, however here are a few links from my links thread that you may find useful.  

If you just want to play the audio you could always use the CD audio files (in mp3) available from the Sound Rips Archive and you could even burn them back to CD in your own complication. And if you do not like the quality of the .mp3 files, Turbo Engine will rip your CDs to WAV.

TELL ME about the rips... what are the mp3's encoded at? Are they tagged consistently/accurately?

I don't have ability to download too much stuff right now, so I'm curious about the overall (A) quality of sound and (B) quality of information

I have just checked a handful of the files they seem to be encoded in variable bit rate format and they contain no tagging info.

I wonder if there's a way to open a FTP-like interface with a FTP client to a HTTP server so you can select all files/folders to download everything at once (recursively)... Some VBScript could be written for this, but I'm sure there's gotta be something out there that does it and *with* a GUI.

When I was a kid I would listen to Lords of Thunder in a portable CD player while doing my paper route. At that time you couldn't burn CDs yet so it was the real game CD. I'm glad I never dropped the CD player at any point.

I am sure that I managed to do this with one of the free file managers.  I will have a dig to see if I can find out which one I used.

Notes:

As these are not my Audio files, nor do I host the site. Do this at your own risk!

Also as not to xxxx off the host, I would recommend that you set the max number of download to 1 or 2 and limit your total downloads per day to a sensible number.

Total download size is 14.6GB !!!!!!!

1) Grab free download manager from: http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/
1) Set download limits (Click link on tip bar or follows instruction in the next section)
2) Click on '>>'
3) Select 'Site Explorer'
4) Enter http://hes.joshw.info and click go
5) Right click files and select 'download'

By default these are placed in C:\Downloads\





If you do not get the option on the tip bar to configure total downloads you can select 'Options / Settings / Downloads / Network' and set your 'max number of running downloads' to what you feel is reasonable.  Don't forget to set this under each profile 'light, medium and heavy modes'
