The atmosphere in II is brooding and ominous, but it's actually far less frustrating than LA1. Even the final stage can be navigated in 1 or 2 lives for an average player. Compare that to the ramping difficulty curve mid-way through LA1.
LA2 also has that incomparably f*cking awesome soundtrack.
Indeed.
I love LA1, but LA2 stands on its own merits (many folks will prefer the hit detection and control and play mechanics of LA2 vs. LA1...granted, I'm not one of those people).
