I do like tits, as well as f*cking them.  Tits = Good.

Therefore, Megamania = Good.

That's another thumbs up for the game from Ark!

Yeah I play mine sometimes.  Have it modified for s-video and have a flash cart for it.  Good times.

An Atari was my first system too. I had a lot of good times with it as a kid.  The last time I played one was a couple years ago and It was actually an Atari flashback. I loved playing Missile Command and Pitfall but it's just not the same as it was back then. I ended up giving it to Oldskool since all it did was sit in its box in my garage.
All is well. :)

Funnily it was also my 1st console beside G&Ws which were my
1st home gaming experience. Later i got le c=64 :)

My dad was keeping telling me that i was also playing on a pong
like console at age of 2, but which i just can't remember anymore.. lol.

But best game experience will rest on the arcade machines like the cocktail tables
which were very pop at the end of 70s beginning 80s, in any kind restaurants
and bars etc. I often went with the family. So great memories.

I agree Tatsujin!  I remember playing the shit out of a tabletop Pengo at Chuck E Cheese back in the early 80s.  Kind of an obscure flop but I still love Pengo to this day.  5200 version is better than the 2600 though.
Now you've got me thinking about Chuck E Cheese circa 1983/4!  It was like a wonderland - they had every damn game back then: Punch Out, Moon Patrol, Tempest, Dragons Lair.  Ah the pre-crash days!

NES NINJA GAIDEN > ARCADE NINJA GAIDEN (sorry folks)

They should've kept the from the arcade version, that was a gyp! The arcade units I played this on had good speakers with kickass bass I recall, so it sounded a lot better on the real thing than from that link. But yeah, the NES "port" lost a lot of points for that in my book... ;)

Rygar/Ninja Gaiden were designed properly for the arcade setting as pure beat-'em-ups. I remember Rygar especially was a quarter-thief like no other... Death could come for you in numerous ways, and often very quickly! Centipedes popping up from the ground, guys getting dropped in by flying terradactals and what not, the clock running out on ya and then getting chased by a special character as a result, etc. That game did operate like the Final Destination movies, if you were supposed to die before when the CPU decided it was time and you barely managed to escape, it'd adjust enemy attack scenarios ensuring death would come regardless (I exaggerate, but yeah!).. It was rare for me to ever get past the 1st level and it took a lot of quarters... Then came the Internet, the MAME emulator and I could finally get to beat it, but not without cheating via F1 save/load every damn step of the way! There is no "easy" difficulty setting on that game despite the configuration settings, that's for sure...

Anyway, if you just judge the NES versions as pure ports against the arcade versions, then I'd agree with Zeta, they're terrible... But that's limiting your scope and not giving 'em a chance as 8-bit games on their own. The home console allowed developers to take the games in a different direction and of course they couldn't achieve the graphics quality level of the arcades, but at least in Rygar's case (for me), they made a very good 8-bit Action-RPG game that was quite memorable. I can't remember Ninja Gaiden NES very well so I can't speak for it, I know I beat it and the two sequels, but that's about it. I know I had more fun with the arcade version and it wasn't crazy impossible like Rygar was.

Man, I forgot about Megamania. It was pretty great. I did some music for a remake of Megamania that my friend was working on that never got finished.

You beat Gaiden 1, but don't remember it much???  That last level is a killer and still gives me nightmares.

Yeah, I beat all three of them (up to "Ancient Ship of Doom"), but it was way too long ago to remember much... Mind you, I beat 170 NES games total that I couldn't tell you much about either unless if the game was really good or stood out in some way or some other factor, etc. I still have to finish adding them to my BackLoggery List - only typed in about 59 as of yet from a manual list that I actually kept. Take Battletoads, that's etched into my memory because I rented it 3 times and could not beat it, failed each time... Got very close, but gave up. Funny enough, I learned it had achieved a legendary status for its difficulty down the road.

Speaking of Megamania again, it's the only game I added to my 2600 Victoly List. ;)

Totally with you on the "senility" of our age. There are many games that I have beaten but simply don't remember too well after all these years.

I never beat BattleToads either! I used to choke on one of those later jetski levels...I'd miss a jump or something and then just fall apart. I don't even know if I was close to the final stage or not.

DIE DIE DIE was so common in any quarter-muncher and I totally agree that there were times when surviving seemed like a GLITCH (Final Destination, indeed!).

I remember losing many quarters on Spy Hunter until I started getting good at it. Same with MEGA ZONE (my favorite under-appreciated and over-forgotten arcade game that I proselytize whenever I get a chance).

BACK ON TOPIC:

I remember playing some Star Wars game (back in the day) where you are on Hoth (horizontal shoot-em-up) and I wonder if I'd still find the game SUCKY. I am curious. Haven't touched that game in a billion years (it was unworthy of the Star Wars branding).

Anyway...

the return of the jedi game where you have to warp to the death star, then destroy it was a fun game.

Yeap, that was it, some jetski level towards the end. You'd miss a jump or something, it'd all go to hell and your Continues were limited (you had to play perfectly to get to that level and blow all your continues there)... It got ranked as one of the hardest games ever made it turns out. I tried my best to beat it too, made it a mission, but just couldn't do it... Bastard of a game (by Rare of DKC fame)!!
