WTB - Sega Genesis Power Base Converter
« on: April 23, 2013, 05:18:20 AM »
I've been wanting to play some of my SMS games lately but just don't have the physical space to get the console out without putting something away and I'm too lazy for that.

So would anyone have a functioning Power Base converter they want to send me for a reasonable price or trade?  I've got all sorts of systems so may be able to come up with something you'd like.  Thanks!

Hey, I'm almost 1 year late to your post. You should consider this new power base converter:

What does db stand for? Well that's an excellent question...

But how will you play the card games?  ](*,)

There weren't enough card games released to warrant getting a custom connector made.

Thanks for the suggestion, db.  I ended up going with something similar, one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Power-Base-Converter-Sega-Genesis-Mega-Drive-Megadrive-Master-System-Adapter-/121264192596?pt=US_Video_Game_Controllers&hash=item1c3be8bc54

I only have 1 card game, TransBot, which I can still play if I feel like hooking up the SMS, but that's not very likely. ;)

Awesome, those are actually my first revision of the Power Base Mini. I only used the blue connectors on the first batch! You sir have a rarity in your hands!

Small world!

EDIT:  I just looked back through my ebay transactions, and yep, I picked one up from you last June.

I'm developing some new hardware for the TurboGrafx-16 now.

Sorry to see you're parting ways with your Power Base Converter.

Oh, that's not me selling it - it was the only one I saw with a blue top.  I didn't realize that you'd "upgraded". :)  I'm keeping mine.

EDIT:  I've actually recommended others to check out your converter since I've liked mine so much and it's hard to find an official Power Converter for what you're selling yours for. :)

The only real upgrade is that it now fits in a Genesis shell. For the rest, I just changed to a more readily available connector, changed the switch to the right side to accommodate 90% of the population, and used a longer shaft switch so that it could be pressed from outside the shell.

It didn't stop Sega from releasing a joystick with the buttons on the left and the stick on the right.  Just sayin'. :D

I'm definitely interested to see your TG/PCE convertors when you get more in stock.

They sell out too damn fast right now. I can barely keep up (I unfortunately also work a full-time outside of making electronics).

I should have more available in about 2 weeks or so - status to be updated on my website.

I'm also working on a mod-less RGB SCART adapter for the PCe/TG-16, hopefully this will be successful as well!

The other reason why the card slot is nice is for the 3d goggles.
