Hello hello hello fellow global Turbo countrymen
I have a story to tell, The Turbo Grafx 16 is something i wanted my whole life, Living in the u.k this wasn't an easy task many years ago. My love for the Turbo Grafx 16 ( if your wondering why i'm listing its name in entirety each time its because i never get bored of saying it ) began one night when i had to go to accompany my mum to an audition as she was a play write back then and i had to go with her it was 1990 and i was 12 years old i was still several months away from getting my first console the NES, On route to the audition we stopped in a paper shop and i bought a Batman comic, i used to love reading american comics purely to read the NES adverts scattered throughout, An hour or so later i had scanned my way through the comic book and then as i finished and turned the final page..BLAM...I saw it for the first time on the back page was the Turbo Grafx 16 i literally couldn't believe what i was seeing i vividly recall the screenshot of vigilante at the time i played vigilante on an Amstrad cpc 464 and here this version looked like the arcade, I read every minute letter and detail of that page.........Instantly i was hooked, The Orange and the black logo burnt into my memory forever.
fast forward 20 years and still gaming as much as ever i stumbled across a reasonably priced brand new pal Turbo Grafx 16, Excited didn't describe how i felt the problem was with it being new i was reluctant to open it, i eventually did but only to hold and look at it, The console i kept sealed in the bag and placed it back in the box, I had played most of the games already on an emulator so my fix was momentarily relieved i had attempted some months later to buy another to use but by this time the prices had been jacked up so i didn't, the thing is i didn't want the dull grey pal unit i wanted the bad ass black and orange ntsc ass kicking fire breathing model the real turbo that i had seen all those years ago.
A few months on from here and i was searching around for a step down converter as i had agreed with myself i would buy a real Turbo from the states and then ...and then there she was i discovered something pretty unique, it was an NTSC Turbo grafx 16 black model in a mint conditioned box with three games for £50.00 but this was no ordinary system it had been modified to run on u.k televisions with a scart lead hard wired into the console and i don't know if this is normal or not but it also runs on a u.k power supply without a step down converter............SCORE after all these years of wanting i finally have my dream console, I picked up a games converter and got crazy on some Japanese sites, i know have about 70 hu cards and i love every minute of this damn awesome machine.
So hello to everyone in the community this is my story, i also have something else very special to share with you but that's in the next post
Peace
