Did the saves on your old copy die?  The batteries are not that difficult to replace in SNES games.

I have one in perfect condition myself, it was a Christmas gift (bought new for $79.99) from my friend's mother when I was in HS, but like you, it's one of the few SNES originals I wish to keep. I do intend to sell off the rest of my originals in favor of Krikzz's flash cart though.

CT is one of those games that transcends being "just a game" for me. I was late to the party too. I didn't play CT until the late '00s. It holds no nostalgia yet, like Dungeon Explorer, its music fills me with joy and wonder.

Surprisingly, I've seen it in the wild in my area a couple of times lately, so if I see it (for a non-ebay price) i'll let you know.
