f*cking PayPal...
« on: June 13, 2013, 04:41:30 AM »
When did Paypal start charging 1% for sending money (gifted)?  Has it always been this way?  Jesus... I thought eBay was bad enough with all their stupid fees, but then you tack on Paypal on top of that and I really don't understand how a Seller can make any money.  Oh, and that's just 1% if the money comes out of your account.  If it comes off your credit card it's 4%-5%.

For those of you in the USA, do your banks use Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), or Electronic Money Transfer (EMT)?  It allows you to send money from one bank account to another bank account over email.  The banks don't even have to be the same.  I can send money online from my ING Direct account, to any one of the 5 big Canadian banks or to any of the smaller Credit Unions.  There is no fee (at least through my bank).

Is this possible to do in the USA?  I know your banking system is different there.  I'm just wondering why, as a community, we are still putting up with Paypal?  I would easily send an EFT to anyone located in the USA if it was available.

What do you use in the USA?

If I gift from paypal funds or my bank account there is no fee.  International has a small fee, and paying with a credit card has a higher fee.

Quote from: PayPal
PayPal balance or bank account:  Free when sending money inside the US.

Debit/Credit card fee:  2.9% of total amount sent plus $0.30 per transaction (the sender decides who pays this fee).

Outside the US:  Small fee of 0.5% to 2% (depends on destination) when fully funded with bank account or PayPal balance. 3.4% to 3.9% if paying with a credit or debit card.

Looks like it's just you hosers that are getting the shaft.  As for why people don't use direct bank transfers, how do you do it anonymously?  I'm not too keen on giving strangers my name, address, and bank account number.

Us hosers are use to getting the shaft on international transactions.  Canuck to canuck is fee-less.

Email money transfers are anonymous.  You just have to register an email address with your bank.  Let's say your email is necrophiliac@yahoodotcom.  All I do is click the "SEND MONEY" button, toss in your email address, enter the amount I want to send, and set up a security question/answer.  All you have to do is receive the email.  In the email will be a link.  Click on it and enter your password.  Now you haz monies!

There are no real names used.  As the person receiving the email/money you can't even see what bank it is coming from.  Here's the Wiki on it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email_Money_Transfer

It's simple, and safe.  Us hosers have used it for years in the Great White North.

I think that is different.  It's not a money order.  It's just an electronic transfer.  Bank to bank.  Instantaneous.

Yeah this is what I was talking about.
So you do have this?  We should test it out turboswimbz.  I could send you $1 or something to see if it works.  Doubtful, but worth a test perhaps?

I just sent money as a gift a few days ago and wasn't charged. Though it was US to US, and maybe there's a difference.

Just checked it out.  I can send and receive via e-mail within the U.S. for free but not internationally - They charge a fee for that (exchange rate fee) and I can only send money to Mexico, South America and the Caribbean???   I have Wells Fargo, anyone else in the US ever send money this way? or have the ability? I'll still try a test if you want to.

The last time I attempted to us a bank to "wire" funds, they was to be fees from the originating, receiving and a another to just do it. I ended up just sending cash to HK via USPS. It has been a decade since I ever needed to do that since most sellers take paypal now.

I think the 1% fee for sending moneys internationally might be cheaper and more convenient unless your bank offers wire transfers for free.
