White PC Engine: low volume problem

I just bought a brand new old stock white PC Engine along with an AV Adapter for it as sold here:

It works great but audio volume is around 40% too low, no distortion or anything....

Anyone knows if this is a case of the capacitors needing replacement, or audio from a white PCE's expansion port is too low? I have confirmed with the maker of the AV adapter that it doesn't come with an audio amp.

My guess is that if your audio jack isn't dusty, and your AV cable isn't bad (which you may want to replace before trying the next step), you may have the capacitor problem that many of the units are affected with. Please check through this thread for the differences between the Duo and the PCE that you have.

Also, check the capacitor replacement chart.

Hi thanks....  Although there is no audio jack on a white pc engine. It only comes with an RF connector which I am not using.

Looking at the link it seems that the audio problems are related to CD-rom audio, but mine doesn't have a cdr-rom unit.

Sorry, I initially misread this post. It is a white PCE. Got it.

If the RF cable isn't bad, which I'm guessing its not, the two audio caps that control the sound are probably leaking or on their way out.
 
There are a few people here on this forum that can help you with the repair if you can't replace the capacitors yourself. I'm not taking repair work at the moment, but would suggest contacting chop5, BlueBMW or thesteve. I think Keith Courage also does repairs.
