Say goodbye to Web Forums fellow PCE lovers from the UK

Thank your government

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/29/uk-internet-filter-block-more-than-porn_n_3670771.html

The United Kingdom's new internet filters promise to block much more than just pornography, according to a report by the digital advocacy organization Open Rights Group.

Based on conversations with several ISPs, Open Rights Group says the new "parental controls" will reach far beyond pornography. By default, the controls will block access to "violent material," "extremist and terrorist related content," "anorexia and eating disorder websites," and "suicide related websites."

In addition, the new settings will censor websites that mention alcohol or smoking. The filter will even block "web forums" and "esoteric material," though Open Rights Group does not specify what these categories would include.

I have been trying to lure one of you guys in a bathroom stall for years and so far no luck.

This place is restrictively safe already.

It's all a bit big brother, true.

But I've just realised that my (telecoms) company have had a safeguard opt-in system for about 7 years now.  I've never opted in on that one, and at time some really strange things were on the list (Gamefaqs for example), but mostly you don't notice.

I imagine it will be similar with teh broadbands.

That's not the point, it's more like nanny state.  Seriously, people over here can be such victims sometimes, it's like the polar opposite of what I read in the states.

If you've got a problem, first thing you do is look for someone to point the finger at, often the government.  This kind of shit is not helping people to help themselves, it's forcing them more into mindless twats who can't even wipe their ass without some kind of help.

I read a story about some girl whos house has a rat infestation, and felt the need to go to a newspaper and complain that the council weren't doing anything.  She couldn't afford to do anything because she was unemployed and on benefits, and she felt the need to sleep on a table (wft I dunno).  I can see by the photo you have a flatscreen TV.  If it's really that bad, sell the f*cker and buy some rat traps.  Get off your ass and investigate.  The government is providing you with a roof over your head and money to live, the least you can do is sort out ONE of your own problems.  Victim.

tl;dr: People need to stop relying on others to do things easily within their control.

Well, what I meant is this:

Quote
Sure, you can untick the box if you want, but as David Cameron's advisors will tell you, defaults are powerful and most users never change them.

So I don't see the real problem here. This would even keep us away from some potential dumb peeps in the future, which probably might to register inhere, but then can't due to denied web-forum access.

This reminded me of George Orwell's 1984, which presaged reality TV shows that contrive ridiculous situations in desperate attempts to maintain ratings/advertising revenue.
