Daimakaimura ~ Ghouls 'N Ghosts ENDING MUSIC comparisons
« on: March 28, 2006, 07:16:58 AM »
I've uploaded the Ghouls N Ghosts ~ Daimakaimura ending music from the SATURN version from Capcom Generation vol 2,    as well as the Arcade, Genesis and SuperGrafx versions.

in my honest opinion, they REALLY screwed up the ending music in the Saturn version -- whatever they did to it --  call it a remix, an arrangement, or what have you.   I strongly dislike it. It's highly irritating.
even if it is technically advanced ( i'm not saying it is)  I still really dislike this rendition...

I think the Genesis version of the ending music is FAR, FAR better as it reproduces the arcade much more nicely. The SuperGrafx version, well they kinda tried, concidering the limitations of the audio chip... it's not as good as the Genesis version. but these all make for an interesting comparison.   I'll try to upload the Playstation / Xbox versions later.

note: I could only get 3 minutes each because that's what the trial version of the software I'm using allows.  I have more robust audio recording software but it's way over my head and didn't have time to learn it.  3min for each version should be enough for you to get the idea.... i'm not even a novice at using software or computers...

This was totally fun. I found it easiest to use this page:
http://www.bolt.com/airraidx/audio/
to compare the different songs.

Final verdict: I love 'em all, including the Saturn version! As to which one most closely matches the original arcade, your assesment of the Genny version seems to be correct.

I listened to each version 2-3 times apiece, but this is the first time I've ever heard the song (I've never beaten GnG), so everything seems too fresh. It's too early to make any final judgements.

They'r'all great, dammit!

yeah, I realized the links that I first created were not the best way to go,
so I already edited in that link to make it easy.

plus, I have now added the Xbox Capcom Classics Collection version of the ending music.

I've always loved the MD music and it's without doubt my favourite version of all of the tunes.

Man, you folks are too critical of the Saturn version! Granted, I'm a newbie to this song, so that may skew my perspective... but I don't understand why you folks loathe the Saturn version so much. Sorry if I offended any of the purists :).

Interesting. Out of those listed, I like the SGX version the best,. Still, I prefer the C64 ending music (the whole soundtrack rather) to all of them.

yea i kinda agree the Saturn is a bit harsher as the music is just really in your face and not subtle like the others but  ..  I dislike the Supergrafx and Xbox versions the most.

Its strange that the only version that sounds close to the arcade is the one not ported by Capcom themselves but Sega for their genny ...

the Xbox version of the ending music is probably technically closest to the arcade.  I would imagine the PS2 version is too, but never heard it.

the recording of the Xbox music is NOT of good quality since it was first recorded with a digital camera, uploaded to youtube, then played back through youtube while being recorded with a microphone and uploaded to bolt.com.   the Saturn recording was a done using the line-in on the sound card straight to an audio recording program and uploaded to bolt.com, so it sounds clearest.

I thought you simply held a mic up to a television speaker, but what you actually did is completely crazy :). The recording isn't that bad considering all of the opportunities it has had to degrade.

yeah it was a pain in the butt, and even worse, i'm a total n00b to doing this sort of stuff.    but since this sort of thing isnt THAT difficult in reality, i figure things out. kinda.

absolute agree! since i played that game for the very first time (checking the BGM menu as always) back in '90, it is one of my fav. tracks in the MD library. and still being listening it nowadays.

the arcade version is the next closest!

thanks a lot for the intresting compilation.  :D
