Ok going to try and translate some stuff here.  Bear with me as I don't know if I can translate things perfectly but hopefully it will work in a way that benefits you guys.

Working on this slowly .......

The Title screen has 3 options.

START
DATA LOAD
BATTLE

This is the BATTLE option and requires you to load up one of your save files and you can only alter the magics/spirits gained from current play session, and while in this room I think you can only Control Rhun or Melvy in here.  You can read up about the game's system but there are 5 books at the top screen.  Here you can battle with each other using which ever save file you have loaded that will contain all the present save file spells and items you have obtained and equip up to 4 of them and use them to battle each other one to one.

To be added more pics and translations.

Thanks for elucidating some of the mysteries of this game. Japanese RPGs on the system are quite the impenetrable lot. It inches me towards picking up a copy instead of playing it on PC.

Was it his guy ?

That's the boss I've never been able to beat.

This boss unfortunately you have a time limit.  I found it is best not to spam any spells at him otherwise he will deflect them and just stand in the same spot deflecting them till the time runs out and then game over. You should move around a bit till he teleports  and then when he re appears hit him with a magic spells.  Most spells take a moment to charge up so pre judge when and where he will re-appear it might help.  Just avoid his ice attack and heal if you need to by taking potions.  He only takes a few hits and then he's down!

Main Menu

Main Menu Icons.  When either player's Health guage reaches 0 it's game over.  If you continue you might lose an item.  The Mana gauge when it is RED the mana is depleted.  BLUE is FULL!

Okay, so I've been playing some Magicoal recently, and here are a few things I've found.

Third, the magic...  okay, so you have various spells.  Your two characters each can cast a different selection of magic, and you'll get more during the game.  Simple enough.  But sometimes I can't use some spells, and I don't know why!  Is there some magic meter I can't see (or recognize) which determines when I can use spells?  Because like, why could I use the fire shield for some time but not the magic-ball shot?  I don't get it at all.  If there's some kind of meter, it should actually make it clear where it is.  I think some kinds of item fixed this, but I'm not sure why.

Yes I know this is an old thread but if incase you are still wondering about this.  I hope the below pic helps!
Rhun has no problems with his spells since he is a straight forward Wizard in the making.  Melvy the 17 year old girl who can talk to the elemental spirits and fairie folk can summon their power but......

Unless you can read the japanese stuff I can just advise you to look at the magic icon spells and match their color to the element balls which are present on each game map.

there are two spells however that can change the element and allow Melvy to use almost any spell at any map but it's random!  However you can try and get it stop on the desired element if you have the patience or luck!  The spell icon looks like a multi colored bracelet

small early tips for early on in the game!

Just before you enter the village try and build up the gold dropped by the zombies in the previous map.  Once you enter the map with the new town....

Some things to do before it burns.

You will witness a young boy Wiz arguing with a water sprite/spirit and he will turn the water toxic.

Switch to Melvy as she can talk to them and pick the FIRST Option to save the sprite.  Take the sprite to any pond that has clear water (there are 3) in the town and you will be rewarded with a new spell for Melvy.  If you do not do this in time the sprite will die!

Throughout the game there is about 3 areas where you can buy stuff.  This is one of them, a village store.

Select the bottom option and buy as many scrolls as you can while controlling Rhun the wiz boy.

Hopefully one of those scrolls with give Rhun the fly spell.

notice there is an item up there on the roof?  Use the fly spell to land up there.  It's a jewel give that to Melvy.  Jewels are important for Melvy.  Just like scrolls the effect is random.  Best of all they give Melvy some new spells.  You can reset the game and try them again for different stuff!

Notice the item on the tree top?  It's a scroll fly up there and grab it for Rhun.

There are a total of 64 spells to collect between Rhun and Melvy.  Not all are needed to beat the game but if you just want to complete the spell book then that's cool.

One of the spells I find pretty useless.  Rhun just plays some music and summons what appears to be a 1 arm naked sprite lady thing.....

Book of Spells list all the spells you will find.  Here I found 61 out of 64.  The rest is items you'll find throughout your playthrough.  If you use up an item in your inventory then that page will go blank again.

Digi.k!  This is excellent info!

Would you be OK if I took all of your work and made a FAQ html page?

Like the one I made for Daichi Kun Crisis?

sure of course.  Regarding that mem128 bug I wonder if later releases of this game patched it up?

I want to give a big shoutout to Digi.k for having yet another helpful translation of the game's menu + some helpful hints; it made jumping into this game so much more smooth.

There are a few parts that will probably trip people up that I figured I'd add in case someone is REALLY stuck.

In the ghost town, you need to get three things to remove the curse. To do this you essentially need to play hide-and-seek with the resident ghosts. All the monsters are invulnerable until you remove the curse. The lady by the well will hop around to a few different locations (well, basement of the large house, and so on), finally cluing you in to the location of one of the items in one of the town wells itself. Some guy with a hat in another house will tell you his item is in his bedroom filled with zombies. The final is inside the large mansion itself. Afterwards you can head into one of the town wells to continue the game.

===

In the water palace, where you have to set the blue stone into the central chamber, there are lots of teleporters. Two of them lead to mermaid statues who will give you clues. Destroy them to open up two additional teleporters. There will be text-boxes that pop up before you enter these chambers. There are three of these chambers in total: left, middle, and right.

You have to enter into them in the right order: you will know which order is correct because your characters will say something each time (if it's wrong they say nothing). I believe the order is Left, Right, Middle.

===

In the castle area, you need to make some type of medicine but you don't know the ingredients. You have to have Melvy talk to the little punk wizard (and I think you need to have some story-related items in her inventory - doll? Book? Harp? I had them all in there just in case) to get him to tell you the right ingredients. Pay attention to the kanji(?). Of the three ingredients in the middle garden, you only need two of them. I can't be sure but I THINK mixing all three makes a potion. I can't remember (will try to confirm this later). This will be useful for surviving the frustrating boss fights ahead.

Also, you will see a guard fiddle with some statues. Make sure you examine them! One of them will have a switch that deactivates the fire-breathing statues a few floors up.

This boss is proving to be a real pain in the ass, mainly because it seems hard to keep your partner from walking into his attacks, which sometimes gets you into the crossfires as well.

The image above seems to imply that you are better off unequipping your AI partner so they don't do anything stupid. I might try that later.

This game has been not too shabby so far, though the game's enemy AI has a distinctly amateurish Japanese-PC tinge to it - everything mostly rushes towards you (sans a few wizards), and the bosses randomly shamble about. I don't think I've found half of the spells available; I can't imagine where they all are, or if you can even get them all in one playthrough.

Yes that is right. two are only needed.

Ah Maybe I should revisit this.  I think after that scene of the punk wizard you have a mini boss fight and after he runs I think you need to catch him with an attack before he disappears and if you hit him on time before he dashes away he will leave you with a spell....

I'm kinda thinking about making a blog on these games with translations of the menu systems at some stage but just can't seem to get the time..

You can get all the spells in one playthrough although a few of the spells you can only get around the end of the game just before the final boss fight..

There is a later stage where you arrange the map and I think you do it in this order.

Second map rotation

3rd and final map formation
