Taking my Cisco ICND 1 test soon......any tips
« on: August 24, 2013, 05:01:17 PM »
So I will be attempting my Cisco ICND 1 test in the next few weeks (sept 5th) was wondering if we had any other networking guys out there, and what tips advise you might have for the exam. I took all the CCNA classes about 2 years ago, and i just went through the CBT ICND 1 nugget videos, as a refresher. I am also signed up with "How to pass" to practice exams.

I don't know how well you know IPv6 but Im sure it will be covered on there a lot. CBT nuggets are a good place to start. hopefully you were able to navigate in the shell of a router for practice. that's where you actually learn stuff.

Yeah, im actually a NOC tech, so im pretty good at navigating through a router. As far as IPv6 is concerned, the ICND 1 and 2 test will be changed as of sept. 30th. I hear thats when they plan on adding a bunch of IPv6 info, and getting rid of the RIP protocol stuff

I sat through the CCNA classes about four years ago when I was laid off.  I ended up getting another type of tech job instead so I never took the exams.  Are all those cisco routers/switches still using command line interfaces or have they finally made the change to a GUI environment?

There is a GUI interface called SDM, but 90% of techs i know all you the CLI. It just allows you such much more control. But the SDM has its advantages as well. Also you can set up an option in the SDM that will show you all the CLI commands it will add to the router or switch, so it can be a way of trouble shooting if you aren't sure of the command you need
