Hey Jibba, I watched the new video last night.  Really liked it! Keep it up!

What's your game capture process like? Most of it looked really good but some of it appeared a bit "jittery".

Hey man, thanks!

I use a DVD recorder to record all of my gameplay footage.  I record everything in s-video, but a couple of my systems don't output it so then I use an RGB -> s-video encoder.  If the "jitteriness" that you are referring to is what I think it is, then I believe that it has to do with the timing settings on the device.  Last night I was messing with it to see if I could fix it, but it's a Micomsoft product, so the instructions are all in Japanese.  So I'm basically just flipping the timing dip switches or turning the micropot and seeing what happens.

Lol, sounds like fun. The jitteryness isn't bad, just a bit noticeable. I record gameplay using a DVD recorder and overall your captures are a lot better than mine, but I'm guessing it's because you're using s-video and I'm limited to composite. But I don't get the jitters so was wondering what was different between your setup and mine. And now I know. :)  Thanks!

Do you have a YT channel?  If so, got a link?  Since you're also using a DVD recorder, what do you use to rip the DVDs, and how do you de-interlace your footage?

Yep, just generic gameplay footage - nothing too special:

turbografxnerd: https://www.youtube.com/user/turbografxnerd - this is just Obey
retroroflmao: https://www.youtube.com/user/retroroflmao - This covers all sorts of classic gaming

I use Handbrake to rip the DVDs and let Handbrake handle the de-interlacing.  I set up a specific profile in Handbrake for vintage games. I can take a screenshot of the settings once I get home if you'd like to see them.  Then I do any editing in Premiere Pro CC or Windows Movie Maker if I'm just cutting out stuff at the start/end.

Thanks for the links; I subbed to both.

I've messed around with Handbrake.  H.264 is a great codec from a size to quality ratio, but editing those files in FCP is a nightmare because that's not what the codec was meant for.  I REALLY wish Handbrake had more codec options because the files that it outputs look great.

You're not the first person I've heard that wasn't fond of H.264 due to editing, but I haven't run into any issues that couldn't be compensated for in Premiere. Maybe I just don't have an eye for it, though.  I *have* noticed that H.264 tends to be low contrast/washed out compared to source, but that can be resolved by tinkering with contrast and/or saturation and/or gamma. I'm not too sure what other issues people are running into when editing that format.

And thanks for the subs! I really intended on doing more with both those channels but they's just ended up being dumping grounds for "cool games I wanted friends to check out." As they say, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions"...

Finished the episode. Interesting that Jibba likes that ole Moon Patrol and I didn't connect that IREM had made that. Moon Patrol was the first game I can track that got me interested in the idea of hacking games. All I wanted to do was change "GAME OVER" to "YOU SUCK" and I began with using edit.com in DOS. Obviously, that's a text editor and when you save changes, it forces the CR LF standard, 2 characters, to end a line, so that change will break an exe full of code data! Somebody introduced me to a hex editor and that's how I finally got it done. :)

Anyway, about my crash problem. I made sure this time to watch it at Youtube.com, so Google Chrome's MP4 player was playing it, but it crashed again, so something is wrong with Google Chrome for Windows Vista... Adobe Flash wasn't the culprit, just FYI.

Why are you using Chrome? It's literally a botnet.

I like the syncing with all devices, from PC to tablets to phone, etc. but I've been using it for years back from its lightweight fast model after switching from IE. Not as fast as it once was, but I still like it. Yeah, the logging of searches and everything means I'll use a clean install of say Opera if I wanna go incognito mode.

Please continue.  I use Chrome for a lot of stuff and it's pretty reliable, I switched after Firefox kept continually eating all the memory awhile ago.  Obviously Google is tracking you to a degree, but I'd love to read an article about specifics if you've got one.

Watched the newest vid. Feel like it needed a Nullity cameo or maybe you could do something akin to what they pulled on the latest ep. of gamesack for your next project. What with the Pat Kilbane app. thingamaf*ck. Yeh.

I revamped the whole site, which now uses Wordpress as it's CMS (was just hand-coded HTML before).  Also just added a write-up on the Blinking Light Win, which is a pretty cool product.

Very nice website set up! WordPress continues to surprise me. Building a decent site is something that always eluded me.

Thanks, man.  Look in to Wordpress.  Get an easily-customizable theme and you can get started with minimal effort.

Looks really good! The only thing I would change if it was my site are the dark blue backgrounds . My eyes don't like that color for some reason
