It's all lazy coding and/or time constraints; it's obvious they could've done lots, lots more with it but didn't.  Why doesn't it have more levels?  Why doesn't it use more colors/details?  Why doesn't it have more varied enemies with more animation frames?  Because it doesn't, not because it can't.

As far as parallax goes, most, if not all the time you gotta have it in the plans to begin with.  Forced scrolling does make parallax easier IIRC, & I believe horizontal parallax is easier then vertical, so, in theory, this should've looked awesome seeing as how it's a game built around horizontal forced scrolling. :(

It's weird that Super Air Zonk didn't have more effort put into it especially since Air Zonk was a fairly decent hit for Hudson.

I personally really enjoy playing both to be honest. I do like Aiz Zonk far better for obvious reasons but I also do find my self debuting Super Air Zonk a hell of a lot more often to my young gamer friends that had never played a TG16 before. Super Air Zonk is much easier to play and that allows a youngster that was born the year this game released to be able to ease into the game play and get far on their first run. And that allows for a future Obeyer to possibly be born. Whenever I toss in Air Zonk first it's a instant WTF this is too crazy and difficult !! In my personal time it's Air Zonk all the way though. I still have not beaten Air Zonk by the way. It's the most expensive HU Card game that I've purchased to date at this point for my collection. It costed me 40 dollars for it boxed and complete at Game Dude in 2001. And so far it's the best 40 dollars that I've spent on a HU Card game also ...
Finally playing these games I couldn't get my hands on back in 91' !!! Nec fan always !!!

You're mistaking standard shooter gameplay for difficulty. Air Zonk hucard isn't difficult, it's a shooter. I haven't beaten it because I suck, but anyone can clear the first few levels on easy. Hell, I beat the first level in fifteen minutes while standing awkwardly at the Toys R Us kiosk when I was twelve. If someone can't enjoy Air Zonk, they'd better stay away from the entire genre.

Air Zonk's incredible music, parallax, and non-stop action is more than enough to keep the worst rookie gaming. Getting stuck on a stage for a few tries is fine because it gives the player a chance to try out all of the different cyborg buddies.

Super Air Zonk has none of these features. The music is average to mediocre, the graphics are a step back, there are fewer cyborgs and they're tied to the stages, the powerup system sucks and barely makes sense, and the action is so mind-numbingly slow that I'm pretty sure I've counted ten-second stretches of slow scrolling with ZERO enemies on-screen.

Yuck

I also have to agree and choose the original Air Zonk over Super Air Zonk. Not only is it one of the most bad ass colorful hueys around , its freakin BONK IN THE FUTURE!  sorry nostalgic moment, I had that game come with my first ever TG16 I had bought (along with Dungeon Explorer, Miltary Madness, Bonk1 and other classics) .

Anyways, I didnt get to play SAZ untill 7 years later. I was in a huge DUO-R binge of getting tons of discs delivered to my house, buying random japanese titles and this was in a bundle. I loved it Im not saying its bad at all, but AZ was easier to hop into. Im not a shooter fan so I cant really get technical on comparisons, plus its been so long since I played both.

Bottom line is while playing Super Air Zonk, I just wanted to hop back on Air Zonk
Im a real life Sadler, just take me to the nearest item shop.

Air Zonk is relatively easy until the final level, where it becomes extremely hard!  That final level is super long and you have to beat multiple bosses to finish the game. I don't know if Id say it's an easy game if it can't be finished easily.  Blazing Lazers is the same way.  It's fairly easy until the final level, where it cracks up the difficulty exponentially.
