I've never played it, but I'm not much of a fan of the original anyway.

Like I said, when I first played this in 2005. As much as I disliked the gameplay i Kept coming back for more and more just because it had "original cutscenes" i Know 0 japanese but that was the only saving factor for the game.... then I popped in Double Dragon 2 *mind blown*

1. it's a PCE game only, therefore such things should go into the PCE section

If you like Altered Beast and can handle a challenge, you should enjoy it.

It has very nice sprites and most of the backgrounds are very well done. The CD version isn't as difficult and features voice samples, but requires the 1.0 System Card to play properly. A Turbo Everdrive will do the trick if you have one.

The music is also good, but most of the sounds aren't anything special by PCE standards.

It is not as bad as golden axe. It is however missing all the awesome parallax scrolling that the gensis port had. With that aside though it is still a good port. The Hu card version is much harder but is the only version with a 2 player option.

The arcade WASN'T POWERFUL ENOUGH to handle parallax scrolling. Only the Genesis could do that. EAT THAT TURBO AND ARCADE LOVERS!!!!!

I actually quite enjoy this game, The screen scrolling is slow and a little annoying but as some have wrongly made comparisons to the mega drive/genesis port as that version was beyond the arcade in terms of graphical tricks and scrolling the arcade contained none of these so in relation to the arcade original it is pretty good, The transformation animation is jerky but it does have the enemies exploding toward you in a pseudo out of screen style like the arcade version did and the sega home port didnt, If you can find for a reasonable price its definitely worth a go and is certainly no Golden Axe

The HuCard one has retarded difficulty.

It's not difficult like "oh I need to get better at this game!"

its difficult like "oh look my toe touched an enemy.  Commence human pingpong ball mode."

then, you bounce between enemies like a drunk at a Metallica concert, and go from full health to dead in a span of like 4 seconds.

It's similar to that annoying thing that happens in Golden Axe where an enemy can hit you and you just bend over and take it like a bitch as he clubs you like a baby seal, and if you happen to be near a piece of terrain, instead of bouncing back when he's done sending it in dry, you just stay where you are and it happens again.

Absolutely agree, its not even worth playing in my opinion, the cd port is better in this regard, no doubt.
