The NFL
« on: November 01, 2013, 02:15:04 AM »
anyone like NFL football? I used to be able to watch college even high school games but now its all NFL. I come from a big football state so our games were always televised in highschool despite only getting 3 wins in 4 years . Had a losing season every year, went 0-10 our first two years, 1-9 junior 2-8 senior year, but it was because we had a TOUGH division to play in, and we were the least ghetto school in a very ghetto division.

Im glad my Dolphins won last night and got the record back to .500 at 4-4, we are #2 soon to be #1 in our division.

No.   They're a bunch of overpaid a$$holes that don't deserve 1/10th what they're getting paid.

Take their salaries, cut em down to something normal, and give the rest of the cash out to something productive, and I might think it's less stupid to watch a bunch of dudes who never left highschool mentality running around touching balls while people who are dumb and pay 12$ for a hotdog watch them at the stadium.

In fairness, you are looking at guys with 1 in a 100,000 talent doing something people love.  They are destroying their bodies, but they are earning their money.   Baseball is MUCH better than football, but I can't argue these guys are making their money.

with that said, I live in Buffalo and the Bills haven't made the playoffs since I was in high school and I am 30 now...  so it is hard to get excited.

I can argue that they aren't earning their money.

Other fields harm your body more and are much higher risks of injury/death, and you don't get paid diddly dick.

See how many deaths there are related to football versus cops who get shot.

Football players make more than doctors, and they don't save lives.  Their talent offers zero value to the planet.

Watching the NFL is hardly any different than watching a highschool football game.

I basically think all forms of organized sports are stupid only because of the giant money put that it is.

Players make too much.  Apparel costs too much.  The food and shit at the stadiums costs too much.   It's just a big joke to me.

Someone once argued against me that celebrities make a ton of money and don't do anything really.

This is sort of true, except that they're doing something that's a form of art.   If they suck, they don't make anymore money.

Sports aren't art.    The dude sitting on the bench touching himself while drinking gatorade makes more than all of us on this forum combined.

...and all he has to think about is what flavor gatorade he wants to have next.

Supply and demand dictates the value of both goods and employees.

If you were the best programmer on Earth and 100,000,000 people were going to buy the thing you were programming when you released its episodic content each Sunday...  you would be worth every cent of the high amount you were getting paid to make that content.

There is a mammoth difference between what someone like Peyton Manning is doing and what some kid on a high school football field is doing.  That is why he makes more in a year than we will make our entire lives, because he is A.) physically gifted, B.) has worked exceptionally hard to hone his craft, and C.) millions of people want to watch what he can do.  There is a reason Denver is the Primetime game every week, because of one man, and the demand he commands.  This in turn sells tickets, jerseys, advertising time, etc.  To say he doesn't deserve that money is just foolish.  He makes more a year than the people on this forum combined because none of us could fill a stadium with people paying $50+ a pop or get advertisers to pay over a million dollars for a 3 minute commercial break.

WHAT YOU CAN ARGUE is that football isn't that good of a game and people shouldn't be watching it and obsessing over it the way they do.  Obviously this turns into the age old "this is good" versus "no its not" debate, but that's why forums were invented!  I agree with you, I think football is a slow and boring game with too many breaks and I don't really understand the obsession.  Baseball is the greatest game ever invented, NFL...  meh.

Like football or not, here's the thing about their pay rate:

They put on a service that is in VERY high demand. People are willing to pay a lot for tickets, memorabilia, jerseys and all that kind of stuff so yeah people on the team deserve to make good money for the entertainment that they are providing. Same goes for basketball and baseball players, etc. Same also goes for actors, race car drivers and all that. Granted, some of those aren't as popular as football so they may not make quite as much, but they're still probably doing OK.

I just hope they know how to save their money. Don't go out and have $25,000 bar tabs. What are you gonna do for money once you retire from football? Most of them go broke. Others manage to find other careers.

This is the part that gets me the most, I think.   There's a lot of wasted money in sport-land.  One of the local Brown's players has a few houses here, AND he doesn't even f*cking tip pizza delivery drivers.  I know this because myself and others delivered pizza to him.    200$ pizza bill, zero tip.

f*ck that.

Right.  This doesn't explain the absurd pay grade for bench warmers.  I'd like to get paid to wear a jersey and drink Gatorade on the sidelines.

There is not a mammoth difference.  He's just better at throwing a ball than the highschool kids, because he's been throwing it longer.  The only difference really, is time.  It's still the same game with the same retarded rules.

If he's gifted, he shouldn't have really had to work hard at all to hone the craft, lol.

I get it.  He's a celebrity, and he's paid stupidly as a result.  However, this is just one person.   It doesn't explain all the other jackasses in the NFL that get paid more than us as well, and they don't do a damn thing.

I always laugh when there's someone in a panic about a football injury.

THIS COULD RUIN HIS CAREER OHNOOOO.

Well, maybe they should've honed something a little more productive than being really good at throwing a ball to someone who's probably going to spend his paycheck on sluts, drugs, or a 35th house.

I don't know for certain, but I don't think there are too many football players who donate alot of their income to something productive.

I mean, Browns stadium is surrounded by a shitty neighborhood.  If you siphoned off money from all of the Browns' salaries and still left them well off, the money could be used to do something useful.

It's not like those dumbdicks are going to win a game any time soon.

Ok dude you hate the NFL we all get it. No other fans I presume?

Joe, you a Bronco fan? I miss Elway. You guys got a legend with laser sight breaking NFL records this year at 40 years of age. Them and the Seahawks are the only team I am scared to take on in the playoffs.

I am a sports fan, but I know my audience.

I love to bring up baseball in the chat for the lolz but I do not expect a good chat.

I save the sports talk for work and don't dare reveal my hidden passion for obscure video games.
