I did a handful of CD games. Not really looking to do more as these are a pain. They need a hex editor to apply.

Grab HxD portable for hex editor:
http://mh-nexus.de/downloads/HxDen.zip

Open your bin/iso whatever in HxD
Click Search/Find
Change the Datatype to hex

Awesome, thanks! I'll finally beat some harder games (shame on me but oh well)
Sure thing. Cheats always seem to be controversial. I am not here to debate their merit.

My perspective is that I am older, work too much, an have far less free time than I once did. When  I sit down to game I like to play games through to the ending.

I couldn't have said it any better myself!
I'll have to try some of these cheats when I have time.
Looking for Magical Chase and TG 16 loose game boxes.

The way I handled cheats for CD games was with the state file of the emulator so then you didn't have to rip the CD and patch the ISO/WAV/CUE image file set. I only did hacks for the YAME and MagicEngine emulators though. If someone wants to convert the offsets in the perl scripts to what they translate to in the ISO, feel free.

The cheats give you full EXP, gold and all weapons/items. This was useful to me and others in the fan translation work, allowing us to quickly traverse the game and test newly placed translations. For fun, just the full gold cheat is useful, as the max items will cause changing/skipping of proper events and what not.

I've tried a few of the patches from the first post in this thread and can't get any of them to work. I used LunarIPS, changed the selection to All Files and selected the PCE rom. I get a message saying "patching successful" and the ROM did change as evidenced by the Last Modified value of the file, but the patch doesn't seem to do anything and the effects do not work.

I even tried renaming the patch to match the name of the ROM as suggested on a Krikzz thread (by the same person, I believe).

Any suggestions?

Make sure you have the proper roms, same name as the cheat, example
hexalter -i "Air Zonk (U) [h1].ips" 0x2B5B=0xA5 &:: Infinite Lives (20B2)
you need the rom Air Zonk (U) [h1].pce you need the (U) [h1] version
I think lunar ips will patch a rom successfully even if its the incorrect rom
otherwise you could try a different rom because some have a header and some don't
lastly you can manually apply the cheat in a hex editor but you still may need to account for weather or not the cheat was using a rom with a header.
If you want to let me know what game I can take a look.

edit: After a closer look, though your more likely to have a matching rom with the same version ([h1] in this case) its most likely just the header/no header issue.

After reading your post I went back and checked. I was using roms from the No Intro set and those weren't working. I located another set and am 3 for 3 with patching so far.

Thanks!
