Does the US one still have the scene where people are burning at stakes?

Yes, and that part was awesome :D .

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Hey Steve, I'm slow.  The following is all from the PC-Engine CD of Exile:
....
At the end, Yuug de Payne reveals himself to be more than a knight.... he's the *Holy Roman Emperor*.  Just imagine:

Sadler and the Holy Roman Emperor sword-fight to the death in THE GARDEN OF EDEN, but... instead of being covered with fruit, the Tree of Wisdom is covered with severed human heads!

It's awesome.

Oh yeah, and Sadler wins.  Because he's a bad-ass with creepy narrow stalker eyes.
!!!! Incredibly awesome, thank you!!! I *still* don't know if you're teasing me, but I loved reading everything in your post! This stuff sounds like it's straight out of a Luis Bunuel film (well, Bunuel was preoccupied with satirizing Christianity -- but he would have loved Exile's brutal handling of the other major religions as well, I'm sure).

It's uncanny, I tell you! Exile is the first and only video game that can truly be called Bunuelian.... although Bunuel would have made Sadler a more flawed protagonist...

I have to admit, I really like the idea of companies reprinting existing games legally. I bought two extra copies of Cosmic Fantasy 2 back during the great TurboGraphx 16 clearances of 1994 just to insure the longevity of the game in my collection. I have averaged at least 1 playthrough of the game every three years since getting the game. I would actually be interested in picking another copy up just to extend the life of my TG-16 collection.  Does anyone know what company is sponcering the repressings?

Until I saw Telenet's porn remake of Valis, Valis Cross, I was pulling for a modern remake of Cosmic Fantasy... but now I just hope the game stays in obscurity for fear that the series becomes another interchangable Tokimemoesque game.

Unfortunately, we're not sure that the company in question (ahhhh, there's a link in one of the prior threads, I'm too lazy to find it) will actually re-press old games... especially since we've recently discovered that CD pressing plants may no longer be able to produce PCE / TG-16 format discs.

As for CF: XXX, I too fear that a new CF installment would sullen the series . May it rest in peace :).

Sully the Cosmic Fantasy series?!?

Clearly you have not seen the secret nude portraits in Cosmic Fantasy 3, or the Saya "tentacles" nude scene in Cosmic Fantasy 4!

Based on my DEEP PSYCHOLOGICAL ANALYSIS of Ochii's manga, I think he always wanted the Cosmic Fantasy series to be hentai.  Of course, part of the charm is how it always managed to barely avoid crossing the line (except for Cosmic Fantasy 4 chapter 1, which gracelessly cannon-balled itself across the line)

No, I haven't seen any of that stuff :) (I've seen CF 1-3).

My point was much simpler, actually: I have no interest in developers who revive an old series simply to make a quick buck. My fear was that the new CF game would be lame, and thus add little to the CF "legacy" (perhaps even detract from it).

I'm not gloryifying CF 1-4 (far from it), rather, I'm simply revealing how little faith I have in the motivations / efforts behind CF 5: The Director's Cut (due to be released in scorching hot July, 2006!).

Of coulrse, until the game is on the shelves, I should stop speculating and reserve judgement :).

I know what you are talking about, but I think there is a measured difference between a few nude/fan service scenes and a game that is built to be a porn vehicle.

Valis Cross is a porno vehicle, Cosmic Fantasy IV Part 1 is a game with some questionable footage in it.

It's kinda weird though... the art on the CD itself looks like a bad CDR applique. If it weren't sealed, I'd wonder if it really was...

I'd be playing it right now, except most of my videogame stuff is in storage  :(

Actually their has been Sealed Brand New CF 2's on ebay for well over a year. I picked one up last spring for $6 plus around $8 shipping from Japan. I've seen them up there hundreds of times as well as on Yahoo auction and Sucess HK a few times.

Well, I think part of the game's point was that the Holy Roman Empire was anything but holy.  The beating up a townsperson part was a skippable conversation scene.  I haven't played the US version, so I don't know how the US scene(s) compare to the JP one.  From what I've heard, most of the changes were names.

Does the US one still have the scene where people are burning at stakes?

Yeah it does.

being a conspiracy theorist f*cktard, i found something INCREDIBLE in yuug's true identity.

yuug isn't the holy roman emperor, he's much more sinister.

in the homis shrine of the past, a worker will mistake Yuug for 'Hram Abis', the man in charge of Homis Shrine. Then, we learn that Hram was murdered by his three pupils: Yubera, Yubero, and Yuberum.

Now, if you ask me, 'Hram Abis' sounds a lot like HIRAM ABIFF, biblical figure/revered icon of those creepy FREEMASONS, who was murdered by his three pupils Jubela, Jubelo and Jubelum.

The resurrection of Moa, eaten by Garuda, was based upon an occult Masonic ritual.

and who was Yuug de Payne anyway? Perhaps Hugh de Payens, the real life founder of the Knights Templar.

and as we know, Yuug later reveals himself as Hram's reincarnation.

God i love this game.

Wow, if that stuff can be verified, it's friggin' brilliant! :) Seriously, I had no idea that Exile had this many references to real-world events / figures. This sort of info really needs to be in a wikipedia article :)

Thats how the original's look. I was dissapointed when I got my first 1st party Turbo CD game like that(Lords Of The Rising Sun?) since I preffered the original Ys I & II/Valis II style covers and loved the PCE silk screens covers that my first 3 CD-ROM games(Golden Axe, Super Darius & Side Arms Special) had.

I assume that you're talking about the PC Engine version. Everyone else is talking about the Working Designs version. Ironically though, there is a brand new PCE Cosmic 2 on eBay right now for $65.

I like the newer CD printing style they used on later TGCD games, like It Came From the Desert and Lords of the Rising sun.
