Author Topic: Just on the off chance these guys move on from reselling Snes and Nes to TG16..  (Read 349 times)

Easier to just copy paste my post from DP blacklist so here ya go:

Add a new one to the list as it is possible the guy deals on ebay and forums as he seems to deal a lot in reselling sealed Snes and other similar rare items. Guy goes by the name Matthew Brett Ham. Lives in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Though he was not forthcoming with this info in my initial contact with him, he is a admin on this facebook group called Retro Gamers Society, which I had joined last November. It seems to mostly be run by resellers who are his friends, Brandon Cole Phillips and another guy named David. I was told by others that these guys, the admins, do this kind of stuff a lot, harass people who wont sell to them, and that they can be in general time wasters. I cant say if the other admins really do that or not, but they did seem perfectly fine with Matts actions, and went out of their way to cover it up for him when I posted publicly about it.

This group seems to be focused on mainly the southern/middle American states. At any rate, for Matthew here, he contacted me in regards to some Sega Saturns I was unloading on the cheap last Sunday, for $50. He stated he wanted them and was wanting to pick them up that day, then he stops responding to our conversation. He did so without setting up a time, meet place, or exchanging phone number info for a local pick up. I wait 4 hours, no replies back, had another interested party who could pay right then and so I sold them to this other interested party since Matt stopped replying.

I made less selling to the other buyer since it is paypal related and I agreed to cover some of the shipping cost, but the major concern was just clearing up some space, not the money. As a courtesy I did leave Matt a message explaining the systems are sold and why in case he ever popped back in. Right away he replies back, even though he stopped doing so prior. He started complaining about how I would rather pay paypal fees and for a box for shipping then then sell to him, and that he had to sell items in order to buy the Saturns, along with him stating he planned to pick the Saturns up that night (mind you its like 7pm already when he says this, and I live an hour away, not having strangers come to my home that late at night).

What sticks out the most is the fact that he stated he intended to buy them that day, and he had no damn money. Anyway I tell this guy if he cant stop being whiny to then please stop messaging me, but he doesn't stop, and gets more aggressive in his messages. In the end I block him. A couple hours later I go to check on the latest post I did on the Arkansas side of this RGS Facebook thing, and I find that pretty much every post I made from late November on up to now had been deleted. These were post regarding sharing information for modding, importing games, etc. As I view this Matt contacts me using an alternate account threatening me with more admin action if I dont unblock him, and goes on a rant on why he was justified in doing the things he was doing. Told him again to stop messaging me, and asked for the other admins names, and he refused to hand them over. Again, he was added to block. Posted publicaly about the issue, and after doing so I get about 13-14 people or so from the group dropping me private messages saying the guy is a creep and not to deal with him or his friends, and asking me for the chat logs from Matts harassment. I hand the stuff over freely.

The other admins did eventually contact me about the incident. Mainly they just tried to force me to delete the public post I made. They knew it looked bad if they did it themselves. One of the admins, David, admitted to knowing about the deleting of my other post. In the end I refused to delete the complaint I made, told them to publicly spin it how they wanted or sweep it under the rug as they obviously intended to do. Wasn't my problem anymore, added them to block and left the group. Had better things to do as I was in the middle of World of Tanks matches and got tired of hearing FB dings every time a admin would post wanting me to delete what I posted, etc. People were also dropping me pms letting me know the admins were deleting their post too when they commented on the incident. It was all becoming quite annoying.

Concerning this Retro Gamers Society in particular on Facebook that these guys run, it has very little to do with classic game discussion, as I soon found out, and more to do with these guys reselling, and others reselling their latest flea market finds for profit$ profit$ profit$.

Lol, I got an PM on Nintondo Age from one of the dudes organizing a branch out here asking me to join too: https://www.facebook.com/groups/CORGS/

Seemed sketchy enough to me in the first place, I'm glad I don't join Facebook groups now.

The guy with the pinned post on the group you linked to, David Chauncey Clothier, is the other screw ball admin. He was just being obnoxious and persistent in trying to get me to willingly delete my post. The one he was stressing over was posted around 1 Am or so, it was pretty late when I did it, when they were not around viewing the page. By the time these admin guys had seen it hours later it was too late to get rid of it their selves without looking bad. About 40 people had already viewed it.

He also got upset when I informed him I gave people the chat logs from myself and Matt account 1 and account 2, and tried to accuse me of being shady for doing so. LOL ikr? Nothing shady about that, I got nothing to hide so I figured if people wanted to know what all was said between this Matt guy and me I figured why not.

People who were contacting me said this guy was an ass of sorts and they wont deal with him or his friends. What few mins of text back and forth with him I did I was not impressed with him. After I blocked him and left the group people felt the need to let me know he went ahead and deleted his and my conversation a bit later.

Also, I got the feeling too that most of these people dropping me pm's about the guy were just wanting to add fuel to the fire, hoping someone would keep arguing with him. A lot of these people came off as kind of spineless to me, so I blocked about every one of them that dropped me a pm off there awhile after I left. The only guy I did not block was the guy I sold the Saturns to, because I need to confirm when they are delivered. Whatever shit they got going on there though with the admins is not my problem. People need to grow a god damned spine.

My opinion? Basically just some groups per state with some probablyok people and mostly shitty resellers, all being spearheaded by wanna be collector resellers. From reading alot of post, it appears to me most of these guys on these groups, admins included, are in it for mainly the money and some attention, not the fun. Most of them are not even remotely in the know it seems as far as importing, mod work, actual value of games, what games are really good, really rare etc. They just go by what other people tell them or what they picked up off of last weeks youtube videos or AVGN. The only thing they do know is typically the obvious stuff that noobs would know. Past that they are fairly clueless about this hobby.

But you guys stole mah damn moon pies and made them into wagon wheels! :P

You know how I ended up joining this group was they ran an ad on CL for retro game "discussion". I joined, and there wasn't much actual discussion going on, so I posted a couple items for trade and did quite a few non sale type post about modding, importing, Nes pin fixing, etc. Herc saw the group and noticed that it was mainly sales ads too. Told him I would tough it out for a bit and see if it got interesting there, try to liven it up I mean, you never know. When that Matt guy got all pissy most of the post he deleted were the good informative ones, about 20 or so. Nothing sales related.

Really though that group, at least the Arkansas one, it just stays in the same state every day, mostly sales ads because the majority are just there trying to make a quick buck off of suckers. I ended up just stopping posting there for a little bit till I gave the Saturns one last bump before planning to box them and put them away. The Saturns are I guess going to a good home at least.

The buyer is trying to organize a 12 player Saturn Bomber Man thing at the local arcade there in his area in Fayetteville. If nothing else that alone means he deserved them more then that admin Matt. I don't mind selling to anyone willing to pay the shipping cost and for insurance/tracking Sparky, but on this I was kind of interested in seeing these go locally in my home state. I dont see too many people here locally anymore with working Saturns. Thats why I didn't put them up on ebay or anything even and charged a really low price for the two systems complete with cables and 3 game pads, the buyer paid $60 shipped for everything. After fees and shipping when it is all said and done I got about $45 out of it.

Also, I think that Matt guy was especially mad because I must have broken some kind of secret profit$ guideline he goes by. He seemed really incensed that I was selling them to someone else for even less money when it was all said and done. Some people just have their priorities all messed up on this classic gaming stuff anymore.

Ya I get ya, always nice to do and a see local dealings but even here where I am in Ontario Canada it's nuts with flippers and game f*ckery.. far few genuine gamers or collectors out there, I have a few I deal with locally but the group is getting smaller each year.

Sorry about your moon pies, how about a send you a box of kinder eggs as I a Canadian apology, There still illegal in the USA.. Super rares! :P

most of them are rather proud of their trickery flippings and gougings skillz, and even have to brag about it in the public.

Kinder eggs, is that the candy with the toys inside? If so those things looked awesome. Reminds me of back in the day when you could actually go to quarter machines outside stores and get decent little Macross type mini figure toys and stuff.

That's them.  There are some special Xmas ones out now.  Do you prefer Barbie or Transformers?

So true.  The other FB retro group me is a bit more interesting (they're even doing a Christmas Party), but so many folks now think they can make a living buying and flipping video games that it just turns my stomach.
