you have to buy a game, play it and when you're done with it, sell it to buy a new game.

The point of collecting is to collect.  It's right there in the name.  Collectors have goals like full sets of every game in a given region, etc.  Chances are they're going to buy a lot of really shitty games for the sole purpose of collecting, not necessarily to play them.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel the word has a negative connotation to it.

You sell Obey!!??  Turn in your card immediately!

I do that with the Genny, SNES, and NES, but NEVER Obey! Unheard of... I'm truly appalled.

Collectors have goals like full sets of every game in a given region, etc.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel the word has a negative connotation to it.

We had discussions(that's putting mildly) about the collectors that go for complete sets, VGA, sealed, etc...I think the term collectard came up from Josh.

I was thinking about this, since I have ample time to fap off this month, and I would like to say that having a "collection" does not automatically put you in the 'tard category. If your games consists of stuff you love TO PLAY, and that is why you include them in your collection, then that does not warrant a thread on Fighting Street. Games are meant to be played, why buy a painting and NOT hang it on the wall?* Also, if you post up or put a YT video out there, then do not get your panties in a wad when some ppl online make fun of you. No one said you had to put it out there for all to see...and if you do, it is for ALL to see (some will praise you, some will belittle, some will not give a flying f*ck)

Anyone that has at least one game has a collection, so the word there has no negative connotation. It's when you see sillys that have 10,000 games that the word is twisted to mean something bad. Maybe it's just jealousy...

*and do not give me that "investment" BS. There are much better ways to invest money, plus why invest in something that can be stolen, burned, lost or have no real value(gold based). I invest in my 401k, sure I cannot play it but it not a game, it's my retirement.

I freely admit to my collectarding ways and give zero f*cks if anyone doesn't like it.  I try to play every game I own at least a little bit (though the sports games are admittedly mostly ignored.... for now), but there's no denying that one must be a bit daft to spend good monies on crap like Bikini Girls.

Just don't start out buying that dreck.  Get ze good stuff first.

A library of games sounds better to me.  It doesn't imply that it needs to be complete or that there's a specific goal in mind.  Stash?  I dunno.

I understand that these connotations exist mostly in my head, just sharing.  It kind of grates on me when I hear people on YT use the word collection over and over and over again, not knowing what half the games they bought even are, sticking them in some pile that they'll eventually sell when the phase is over.

I guess I'm just an elitist prick.  If you're less or more into something than I am, f*ck you basically.

As far as game recommendations go, as weird as it is the Wonder Boy and Adventure Island games got me into the PC Engine scene and I love them all (especially New Adventure Island).  They're a little pricey these days =[

From the original US Turbo lineup I'd say the best are Bonk's Adventure, Legendary Axe, Devil's Crush, Bloody Wolf, Ninja Spirit, Neutopia, R-Type, and Splatterhouse.  Hell, everything is getting pricey these days =[  I'm super grateful to the people on this forum who have offered some fantastic prices for great games.

Do you like playing Japanese language RPGs with or without a guide?

Yes, so PC Engine will be right up your alley. :D

Recommendations.

Platformers:

Mizubaku Daibouken (Liquid Kids)
Bonk 1
Bonk 2
Bonk 3 (music is bad though)
Parasol Stars
Jackie Chan
Legendary Axe (my favorite)
SonSon II (a level by level Metroidvania)
Bravoman :)

Shooters (not as much experience here):

Mr. Heli
Gradius
Salamander
Parodius (but SNES version owns it)
Kyuukyoku Tiger
Side Arms
Gate of Thunder
