Introducing myself and discussing multiplats
« on: January 21, 2014, 12:17:31 PM »
Hey wanted to say hello to everyone. Finally got approved, so it's nice to be on what looks to be the best Turbo related boards. Loved my Turbo when I was a kid, though never had the cash to really build up a big collection. Hopefully I can remedy that now, though ebay prices still feel pretty ridiculous.

Anyhow, what I was wondering was, which multiplatform games ended up being best on the Turbo? I remember loving the hell out of Valis III, and Ys III, and Forgotton Worlds looked pretty sweet even if I  was never able to find it for sale back in the day. What are some of the others, and how do they compare.

For example, which is the best Prince of Persia port? I know it was out for both Sega-CD and TG-CD, but am not sure which one I should try to track down. Same goes for Dungeon Explorer, I know that got a SCD port too.

Any other multiplats that were better or worse on Turbo?

Raiden is definitely best on Turbo.

Not many multiplats came out in the U.S. though.

And so many versions of Prince of Persia. Heck, the Sega CD and Genesis versions aren't even the same.

Prince of Persia doesn't look too nice on PCE, but it has great music and plays solid. The Genesis cart version of PoP looks by far the best to me.

The Dungeon Explorer game for Sega-CD is an original game by Westone.

For consoles, these are overall best on PCE

Valis
Valis II
Valis III -according to most people. The extra content is usually the deal maker.
Valis IV
Ys I & II
Ys III -again, the color music cinemas and extras overcome the flaws for mot people.
Ys IV
Dragon Slayer LoH
Dragon Slayer LoH II
Brandish
Dungeon Explorer II
Forgotten Worlds
Lords of Thunder
Daisenpu HuCard
OutRun -not a fan of the game, but most people say it's the best
Space Harrier
Monster Lair
Dracula X
Adventure Island/Dragon's Curse
Youkai Douchuki
Cloud Master/Chuka Taisen
Bomberman '94
Hellfire S
Madou Monogatari
Burai
Emerald Dragon
Might & Magic III
Afterburner II -popular opinion
Devil's Crush
Princess Maker
Princess Maker 2
Langrisser
Exile
Rainbow Islands
Puyo Puyo
Gradius I & II
Salamander
Tatsujin
World Heroes 2
Fatal Fury 2 & Special
Art of Fighting
Godzilla
Klax
Operation Wolf
Populous The Promised Lands
Adventure Quiz Capcom World
R-Type
Raiden/Super Raiden -popular opinion
Space Invaders'es

These seem to be best from what I've seen and heard:

Gain Ground SX
Sim Earth
Chiki Chiki Boys
Cosmic Fantasy 1 & 2
Daisenryaku
Princess Minerva
The Atlas - Renaissance Voyager
Kyukyoku Tiger

Since it's such a simple game, many people prefer the PCE version of Shadow of the Beast for the soundtrack, player sprite and extras.

This isn't a popular opinion with people who don't really play games or simply judge them based on brief looks, but Popful Mail is by far the best for me.

In my opinion, Super Darius II is much better than Darius II MD, but hardcore Sega fans have said it's ugly and plays terribly.

Aeroblasters is more fun to play for me as well (plus it has better music).

The titles listed above are for pre-32-bit consoles, although some still surpass future consoles. I really don't like the mechanical mix that is Anearth Fantasy Stories for Saturn.

Cobra II is as good as you could ever want on either console.
