Custom CD labels for TG-CDs
« on: January 30, 2014, 02:22:00 PM »
I recently got a lightscribe burner, and have been quite enjoying never having to look for a sharpie again. The other nice thing is I can make pseudo professional looking labels for the few translated PC-Engine games like Ys IV and Dracula X. I figured I would share them in case anyone needs an easy label for a burnt CD.

yeah the original images were shamelessly stolen off of the web, but I edited them to add the Tubografx logo and remove any Japanese text. I pretty much suck at all things art related, so they probably aren't that great, but better than a Sharpie I figure.

Anyone else do anything like this? If you did they are probably better than mine.

There was some discussion awhile back, I think in the Castlevania english translation thread, where someone had lightscribed the disc face a few times to get a decent level of black.  I don't have a lightscribe capable burner so didn't follow it very closely, but others may have more to chime in.

Oh I like this Dracula X art better.  I hated the other that used Old English.  It didn't look right.  It f*cking looked like it read "Randa af blaad."   ](*,)

Glad you liked it. Looking at that other thread. Man I wasted some time making this one when there was a perfect 2 color badass one ready for Rondo. Oh well. Did they ever finish the english manual for the game?

Hmm how do the quality of Lightscribe discs compare to regular CDRs? I have a lightscribe burner but I thought it would damage the console's CD reader?

Like I said, I detest the Old English and like yours better, here is why if you want a good chuckle.

I say go for redoing the whole manual and back inlay too!  (Just please no more Old-E "homes") >=)

Honestly, I can't speak from personal experience, I've been burning stuff in preparation of my Duo arriving. I heard some people have issues with them, but we will see. It depends how hard they are to read. THe verbatim's I picked up were apparently some of the better one's out there, but even the best is apparently not as good as the Taiyo's that are disappearing.

I still love it when people say to burn at 1x. It is simply not an option for me at all. Hell the lowest speed I can burn right now is 32x or so, and from what I was reading, sometimes burning too slow can cause issues.

I'll let you know how my Duo does when it gets in.

Kinda still like Sadler's Ys IV label better, but it could still use a little more work. I assume you know that it's now 100% translated with dubbing, yes ??

Anybody else see Chris Bucci's Dracula X label ?? ;)

Reminds me: I still wanna buy a LightScribe burner before it's too late. They're not sold retail anymore, and I almost had one opportunity to get one from somebody else that had it on her computer, but I lost out on it... Simply because I wanted it, she got all crazy, hardheaded, and thought it was like the most valuable thing in the world, etc. so she refused to trade it to me for System memory and a regular DVD drive. I had the memory sticks to upgrade her old 1 GB Vista PC to 2 GB, but I wanted to trade for the LightScribe drive that it had, and instead give her an extra, regular Sony DVD-R I had as a replacement, but she totally refused...

She never even knew what the LightScribe feature was for, no friggin' idea, let alone where to buy the special discs, and I explained to her, after the trade, with the 2 GB memory upgrade, the PC would run faster, and with the replaced drive, you'd still be able to burn CD-R/DVD-R discs all the same if you ever learned how, etc. but noooooooooooooo... She still thought she was getting some kind of raw deal and refused to give up that drive, even though she'll never learn how to use it...

So yeah, that's what I get for giving practically free PC tech support to people I come into... It's all about helping them, and the second you notice they can do something to return the favor and point it out, they suddenly get all greedy and forget all the freebies you helped 'em out with up to that point... Happens to me more times than I care to think about... Her bigger sister paid me a few times to come over at their residence and get their Internet connection working again at least, so not a total "one-way taking advantage" type situation, but yeah. Pfffft. Why am I not more of a misanthrope, I dunno.

Anyway, yeah, I'll have to buy one off eBay some day...

P.S. Oh hey, good to cya around, George! Never saw too much activity from your FB account, and just realized who you kinda were. Welcome to PCEngineFX!

Looks nice. With mine I was trying to keep it as similar to the Japanese label as possible, though I might still do some changes on it. If there a HQ version of that image I might just use it myself though.

And yeah, I know about the dub.

Interesting, looks like a bonus disc of some sort.

I guess I got mine right at the end. Got it early-ish last year when I was upgrading my machine in order to play some of the newer games that were coming out, or at least play them well. I needed a new drive, as my old ones were all still IDE so I grabbed a BD-Player/CD/DVD Burner, made sure to pay a couple bucks extra for light scribe as it seemed cool. Must have grabbed them right at the end.

Thanks. I lurked on here for ages, but signed up a few months back to try and help a buddy repair his Duo. Months later I was finally approved, so here I am. I'll likely post for a while and vanish for months, it is my way.

BTW was there a high res manual/insert for the english Ys IV?
