Getting Started in Wizardry 5
« on: February 01, 2014, 11:54:02 AM »
Anyone know how to start this game? When it starts up it shows a Naxat title screen, then goes to the copyright credits, then it displays a black screen with two lines of Japanese text. No matter what I do or press nothing happens. This screen is referenced in the manual, but is described in lengthy Japanese.

Any pointers?  :-k

Do you have enough room in your back-up save memory?

Any time a RPG in particular stops you at a screen like this, copy your saves to a Tennokoe Bank, format your back-up memory and try again.

Yeah game saves must be huge! I deleted old saves 1x1 until it would run. I had to purge everything! :-(

Anyhoo... Visuals are very nice. Unfortunately the menus and everything are not in English. So not really sure what to do to make characters and such. I think once you are in game, the displays and commands are in English. Its getting there that's the problem. Really could use a guide.

I don't get that with the JP games... why so mixed? If they can provide some English in the game and manuals , why couldn't they give an option for one or the other?

If I remember correctly, the Wiz games actually wind up using the *entire* bank on the pce.

On a side note, if you haven't done so already it is well worth it to start the series from the beginning. The games after the first should allow you to import your save from the previous title, so you can work your way through the story/dungeons with your original crew.

Assuming they survive... :P

Thanks Xak. I think I rank across this, and this may be my only option if I want to play this anytime soon. I was really hoping to find screen images of the PCE version with translated captions.

title screen, the second option should be your "select switch" or option menu. one of those settings changes most of the games text from japanese back to english since the game is an american original.

OK... there is no title screen
Once the game loads it immediately plays the story trailer... then it shows a WV title but there is no options. If you press any button, it starts the game and places you directly in the game, in the town. I found 1 screen that appears to function as an option screen, but no matter what I select it has no bearing on the language.
