I'll say it again Alisia Dragoon for the genesis. The game didn't get much attention, after it's release.Unique way for attacking a decent story and a really good sound track.

Kickle Cubicle
Great pick! not many people talked about this one back then and not many people talk about it now. It was (censored) awesome back then and still kicks butt. It messes with your brain big time, but totally worth it to see the ending.

Alisia Dragoon is awesome.  GAINAX + Game Arts?  Hell yeah.  f*ck you, Super Nintendo!

That game is all about the lightning upgrades.  Finding them all as quickly as possible makes a HUGE difference.  f*ck those platforms in the second to last level.

The squeaky noise she makes when she gets hit is really weird, haha.

Shining the Holy Ark (Saturn)

I actually think a lot of Sega Saturn games are underrated due to the psx dominance..

Dragonforce
Shining force III series
Saturn Bomberman
Silhouette Mirage
Princess Crown
Tengai Makyou IV

Ys is also un underrated series...

NES: Al Unser Jr Turbo Racing

You know, this is generally a game I see for around $1 or less actually.  You saying it's a pretty good game?
Might have to pick this one up..

I gave this away for one of the caption contests.  As much as I wanted to like it, something just fell short for me.

Everybody rags on Addams Family for TCD, but I love it.
I enjoy it on the NES too.
I'm a big fan of Dick Tracy on Genny, nobody talks about that one.

Another underrated game, that i happened to play today is Astal for the Saturn. The game is beautiful, and the platforming is solid. Also love when Astal screams "Yaaaataaaa"

Overall, I think racing games on the older systems are not given much attention. This one is pretty neat, and it has some replay value. It controls pretty well, the graphics are good, it has good sound effects, I love the music (only four melodies but they are fantastic). It is more challenging when you create a driver.

This game uses a battery to save your progress, and while you could finish it in one sit, I think it is more enjoyable if you make your own driver and make your car more powerful race after race.

Data East games on the NES are hit or miss (Karate Champ, Robocop 2) and that maybe another reason why this one was overlooked.

Alisia Dragoon worked for me with it's auto targeting and all.

Regulars won't be surprised when I say...

MESOPOTAMIA/SOMER ASSAULT is an underrated game.

I should just link to a post from a decade ago where I explain how this game succeeds because it is a hybrid that adequately balances the different genres at its core: the ratio between Action vs. Puzzle vs. Shooting vs. Wacky physics vs. Odd mechanics of Slinky. For me, the balance is just right. A lot of experiments in hybrid-blending can rub folks a bad way because all genres are not equally loved by all people. So...I hope you try the game with an open mind.

DISCLAIMER: If you don't like quirky, then Somer Assault may not be your cup of tea.

I love Somer Assault!  It took a little bit for me to get used to it when I bought it back in the day, but it's a very original game.

I think I am going to add El Viento.
