RAFFLE: FIGHTING RUN CIC - WINNER!!
« on: February 15, 2014, 01:33:27 PM »
Who wouldn't want this significant classic?
It's listed as "Avoid" on the PCE Software Bible.  I assume that means, "Avoid missing this gem!"

I don't necessarily have to be entered for the raffle, but I will recommend a book!  While not a "video game book" by any measure, you should give Tale of the Heike (Heike no Monogatari) a read if you enjoy classic literature.  It's an epic, pseudo-historical telling of the Genpei war in feudal Japan.  It also mentions Taira no Kagekiyo, star of Namco's Genpei Toumaden. :D

Fighting Run is a cool tech demo which runs 4+ good quality sound samples at once.

It also used pre-rendered cgi 3 years before DKC.

Seconded...Racing the Beam is one of the best books on the subject I've ever read. Page after page of assembly porn.

Here's another good one; consider me entered:

I just checked and apparently I don't have this game. :P

Please sign me up. :)

The only video game book I've read, which isn't a compilation of magazine articles or anything, is "The Ultimate History of Video Games", which I received as a Christmas gift. It's all stuff I already read about over the years, but there are some interesting topics if you aren't familiar with the details of how they went down.  It's been out for years, so it should be easy to find and cheap.
