February 19 - February 25: Splatterhouse
---------------------------------------------------

(Chosen by FiftyQuid)

I'm basically a Splatterhouse noob, so I'm not exactly sure what to say about this one. Fortunately, there's a Game Sack episode that says plenty for me, so I'll just shamelessly post the link here.

There! That was easy.

Work has swamped me recently, but I really want to try this one. I hope a lot of you agree!

Man do I ever love this game! This was the first thing I ever saw running on a TG-16... they actually had it on a display in Babbage's (or Electronics Boutique?) way back in the day. I thought it looked awesome, but I didn't get my hands on it until a couple of years later, when I rented a TG-16 from a local video shop along with Legendary Axe, Neutopia, and Splatterhouse.

Add in copious amounts of illicitly-obtained alcohol, and that was a really fun weekend!

Decided to give this one another play-through and wow, I forgot how annoying those bubble/fetus things on level 6 were

It's cool that the game still manages to be creepy after all these years, though. There's a sort of...  oppressive vibe about it that's lacking from most current-gen horror games.

I remember eagerly awaiting the release of this as a kid.  When it finally came out, I had almost enough money for it - and a bunch of change which I remember counting out at the Toys 'R Us counter to bring me up to the total.  I must have really annoyed the woman who sold it to me!  But I took it home and played the bejeezus out of it, because I loved the whole horror genre and that was probably the first game that ever really managed to pull it off, at least in the US.

Sadly, it's one of the games I traded away (As a stupid kid), despite how much I loved it.  I traded a few away I really loved because I had beaten them so many times - like dozens each.  I regret it though and haven't traded anything away in years.  I don't feel a strong urge to get it again, though, I think the Arcade version is superior anyway, don't you?  I might if it went for cheaper just as a fan in general.

One of my TG favorites!  In the US, we had never seen anything like it on a console when it came out, gore-wise.

I recently picked up Splatterhouse 3 for Gen, but haven't played it yet.  I want to play 2 first, which I'm still hunting for.  Were any of you unlucky enough, like myself, to play the reboot on PS3/360 a few years back?  Poor game design, but I did get a chuckle when ramming Rick's arm up a giant beast's anus, having it pucker a bit then ripping it's guts out.  Classy!

I still think TG-16 Splatterhouse is my favorite... the arcade version is technically better (and uncensored), but it just doesn't give me the same warm and fuzzy feeling. Kind of weird to use "warm and fuzzy" and "Splatterhouse" in the same sentence, lol  :P

Part 3 on the Genny/MD was OK, but I didn't really like the strict time limit, or the boring maze-like layout. Kind of cool that it had multiple endings, but it ended up being more annoying than fun for me. Still worth playing, though.

My second-favorite is probably the Famicom version, Wanpaku Graffiti... it looks like a kid's game, but the gameplay is great.

As far as the 2010 reboot, I didn't think it was all that bad. It wasn't great by any means, but it was big, dumb, and goofy. Beating enemies to death with their own severed arm was a highlight, but the best part for me was being able to unlock the original three Splatterhouses(?).

Wanpaku Graffiti - I love stuff like this too, weird to see SD Splatterhouse.
Splatterhouse 2 - Never beat it, but seems like more of the same.  It's on my bucket list of games to beat.
Splatterhouse 3 - My buddy and I sat around and beat this.  It's kinda crappy but I have a soft spot for it, I love navigating around a haunted mansion in any game really.  It's stupid easy though.
Splatterhouse (360) - I bought this for cheap a couple years ago and never finished it.  Didn't like the injected 90's vibe and music.  Thought it would be cool for the emulated versions of the games, and it was a nice feature, but the options (especially filters) are non-existant so I'll never wanna play them on this.  They just look blurry.

Anybody own that LCD version?  It's probably horrible but I would love to have it just because I love the original game so much.

I happen to love splatterhouse 3. It was my first time playing any of these games, and i know it gets a lot of flack for straying from 1&2. The game was scary and creepy as hell when i was a child, and the game still spooks me out.

I kinda do too, all I was saying is that it's too easy and I recognize it may not be the best game in the series.  Plus, there's something about that music when you clear a room that I just love.  I recall it clearly even though I haven't played it in months.

Gave it my first real shot last night. That damn eyeball painting owned me. I have an idea about what I can try next time, though.

Yeah, that music was indeed awesome, and felt like such a sigh a relief. Its like "okay, no more scary creepy shit in the room"

If you corner any of the objects against a wall and attack repeatedly they will just fly into your fist or leg until dead, I remember making short work of the knives this way especially.  I'm fairly certain (going by memory) you could lock the painting into a pattern also.
