Bonk 3 Bonks Big Adventure
« on: February 23, 2014, 03:21:43 AM »
I bought this game not too long ago at a video game store. It came with a pretty hefty price tag of $100 but after buying it I could barely find anything about it online including auctions. I bought the card version of it and it came with no case or manual. I've never played the other 2 so how does this one compare and more importantly how much is this game worth thanks

I think most will say that Bonk 3 is the weakest of the three Bonk games on turbo... they did some neat stuff with the huge sprites and such but the gameplay just wasnt as fun.  Its a pricey title since it was a later release.  Hard to put a price on a loose huey, but I'm sure its more than $100.

I couldn't give you a price on it. But it's one of my favorite turbo games. I think mostly because of the multi-player action. A lot of little things you can do co-op to get extra lives and things like standing in each other heads and then jumping after the other to getting even even higher to reach places you other wise couldn't.  There are flowers that you can use to fly so one person has sit and the other head to fly around.

Then there is sort a option to teleport were other is, but this costs health, but can save you too. If you've played New Super Mario World on Wii it sort of like the bubble.

Just a lot of great multi-player stuff.

I think the only time to play Bonk 3 is when you have 2 people around, in which case it is great.  If not, I stick with the original (though others will argue for Revenge).

You should pick up 1 and 2 while you are at it, since they can easily be found in the $10 range if you don't mind loose games.

As for selling the game, you could probably get $150 for a loosie on ebay, but then when the ebay fees are added and you ship the thing (assuming you pack it right), you will make $20.  Unless you are incredibly strapped for cash, just be happy you found the game at a reasonable price.

Bonk 2 is the best IMHO.

Yeah to be honest after I bought the game and looked at ebay for a general idea for prices I actually had trouble finding the game at all. A few Japanese versions and an American version (CD version) later I still found myself asking questions. I saw 1 or 2 copies for like outrageous prices which I didn't think were true ($300-$400) for complete copies. But yeah I'm just glad I picked it up especially the hardest Bonk game to get. I got the TurboGrafx 16 a few months ago after being interested in the console and also wanting an NES type system. What I mean is an older system that I could just plug in and play and have tons of cheap and random games for. I know the library of the TG16 is not even comparable to the NES or even the Sega Master System but still if the explanation makes sense thats the kind of console I wanted to add to my collection (Still have my Sega Genesis and already have an SNES which is very RPG heavy as far as the collection of games I have but I wanted something I could just buy arcade games and platformers and the like.) I'm not going to get the CD attachment and if I do it will be much later on as I'm currently focused on collecting for the Sega Saturn. Anyway aside from Bonk 3 I did manage to get a nice little collection started.

Bonk 3 Bonks Big Adventure
Ninja Spirit
Bomberman
Dungeon Explorer
J.J. & Jeff
Blazing Lazers
Keith Courage in Alpha Zones
Fantasy Zone

I think that's it but most of them are complete except Bonk 3 and Fantasy Zone so far

Bonk 3 is still a good game but it's just not as good as 1&2 which I suggest you pick up as they are really fun.

$100 for a loose copy isn't a bad deal so no worries there.  I'd keep it and enjoy it.

Bonk 3 is my favorite of the three, but the other two are well worth playing as well.

By the way, who spends $100 on a loose huey not knowing what it's like or what it normally sells for?!?  Either you're a bit full of beans or just another instacollector magical chasing after the latest rarez.

What do people think of Super Bonk 1 & 2?

I'm fairly partial to the two GB games myself.
Hey, you.

I really wish I could read Kanji so I could understand the story behind Super Bonk 2. The game itself is insanely fun with great, colorful visuals and some really good music tracks. I just can't read the text of it.

The first Super Bonk is also an excellent title. After the watered down Bonk 3 we received, SB1 was a welcome addition to the series. A soundtrack release would certainly make my day.
My past-life would've surely led to our demise, and I had left it not a moment too soon. Our escape, though dangerous, had gone well. The train ride, sunlight, and passing snow-covered pine trees came together in a flickering show of our bright, new future together. Her head rested on my shoulder as she soundly slept to the gentle rocking of the passenger car. We felt freedom. We felt peace.

Lets be honest here, there really isn't a rhyme or reason why anyone should pick up the U.S copy of Bonk 3 whereas the PCE version can be had for so much cheaper and is effectively the same game (uncensored of course). Its not like there is a language barrier on those type of games.

You already have a nice set of games in your collection.  Congrats on the Bonk 3.  That was a fair deal.  Also, welcome to the forums.  It's nice having some newer faces around.

So i guess that my 60$ copy with the Original french folded booklet was a good find. I'm just a bit anoyed that the french booklet was a black and white 2 sided printed sheet of paper. Even if i know it's the original it's still look like a cheap repro.

Bonk 3 is okay. The two player mode feels kind of hacked on. I think the level design is a bit lacking especially compared to Bonk's Revenge. The big/small power ups add a bit of variety but overall I like it quite a bit less than revenge (or as someone else mentioned Super Bonk 2 for Super Famicom). But more than Bonk's Adventure and about on par with the original Super Bonk (it might be a tad better than Super Bonk but it's close).
