TG-CD/CD-ROM² Loading times

As a comparison I am interested in your experiences - can you give examples of loading times on CD games? Since the two drives are technically almost identical, I think it will do if I post it here for both...

I am interested to know how fast the drive can get at the best settings, a clean and good disk without scratches provided.

original Japanese disk, clean and new & US CDR 10x with ImgBurn on EMTEC:
~15 secs from "Run" to Intro
4-5 secs from sequence to sequence (Intro)
~4 secs for entering Rooms (Save/Load, Healing, etc...)
5 secs from Level to Level (adjacent screens)


What´s your experience with either this game or the one you´re actually playing with?

Different CD drives read at different speeds. Not like 1x vs 2x, just newer ones tend to search faster than older models. Having a freshly replaced laser also makes a big difference.

Separate from that, cdr copies are infinitely varied. The best you can do is make a direct copy using the best quality discs that PCE CD drives like to read. Downloading misc isos and burning them in various ways can lead to so many different results. So you can't really do a controlled comparison like this.

My refurbished white PCE + white CD-ROM combo loads in and out of Mysterious Song battles about a second faster than my refurbished Duo R if I remember correctly.

For overall drive performance, the newer systems tend to be a little faster on average, but at this point it's all about maintenence. The original CD-ROM tends to have gear issues as well.

Ok, got you. I don´t want to spoil it (thankfully there IS a cheap AND working solution for all out there!), but for me my custom gear works much much better. Since I am using my own 2nd gear wheel (like the original one, but made from POM), it is WAY faster and a lot more silent. Looks like it also puts less stress on tracking, from my pov.
