April 9 - April 15: 1943 Kai
---------------------------------------------------

(Chosen by lukester)

Holy crap! Sorry I'm late, guys.

I'm always happy to see another shooter on the list. Some might say that 1943 Kai hasn't aged so wonderfully, but I think it still has the simple charm of shooters from the mid-80s. When I play, the clouds have a pleasant hypnotic quality to them, and the music and sound effects sound just like an old video game should.

I won't bother writing 1-10 here, but by all means, post the high scores you get during this week!

As a fan of 1943 in the arcades, Kai was a welcomed title in my library.

Some of the enemy ships and planes actually resemble their real-life counterparts in the Imperial Japanese Navy during WW2. Of particular note, the Mitsubishi G4M (Betty) bombers return in Kai and they're just as annoying as they were in '43.  ](*,)

My past-life would've surely led to our demise, and I had left it not a moment too soon. Our escape, though dangerous, had gone well. The train ride, sunlight, and passing snow-covered pine trees came together in a flickering show of our bright, new future together. Her head rested on my shoulder as she soundly slept to the gentle rocking of the passenger car. We felt freedom. We felt peace.

This is a great game. I haven't played it in years. I traded my copy, stupidly For some garbage that wasn't nearly a good.

Anyways, I'm gonna try to play this sweet little 1943 Kai this weekend via gameofyou's thingie.  I never figured out how to use the damn thing.

This is one of my favorite pce games. A thrilling shooter, and a technical miracle.

I can 1cc the arcade mode, and beat both modes back to back within the credit limit.

Tip: only use the laser if you can, and make sure to upgrade it.

I am disappointed that the Yamato was not upgraded as the final boss of the orgasmic original mode.

There are lots of cool cheats too in the sound test menu, such as skip to original mode, and double speed.

I bought my loose huey for about $30 a couple years ago, definitely worth it.

Besides, it's turbo charged 1943 ;)

Played this for the first time yesterday.  Honestly, I was getting a little bored with the first half.  However the 2nd half was really a surprise, where it almost seems like a totally different game.   Overall a good game and a fun shooter.

I have never been able to get into any of the 194x games.  Are they WW2 themed throughout?  Does it get crazier if you get further, like the introduction of aliens or something else?  I definitely like science fiction themed and parody style shooters a little more usually.  Same reason I never got into the Raiden series.

Yah, first half by Capcom, 2nd half by Naxat.

In the credits, you will see both Mobi-Chan (from Capcom's sidearms) and Kid Dracula (Naxat's mascot), wave bye to the player.

I personally like the WW2 themes of the 194x shooters. I found a great deal of joy sending Yamato to the bottom in 1943. The Strikers series was kickass; a German aircraft carrier and a Japanese flying boat turn into cool looking mechs with insane attacks.

Mechs count as sci-fi!  I admit I never played past level 2 of 1943 Kai from lack of interest, I was just checking it out while I was looking at Supergrafx games.  Any additions to that version of the game?

1941 is just a straight port, and I don't think it would be worth $500, when you can just get it on PS2.

Oh you're right, that was 1941.  I would never spend $500 on a single game, except maybe a pinball table and that's even if I could get it for that cheap!
