Phew! It's actually been about a year since I last played this. The 6th stage creamed me, but I managed to play the last third of it with one health speck remaining AND beat the boss. I then went on the beat the game.

Most thrilling gaming I've had in a while, that's for sure. Like I always do, I paused the game right before auto-flying to the 3rd boss, because the best part of that BGM actually comes after the stage normally ends. I had to put down my controller for a minute to air guitar.

(the stage ends somewhere around 2:50)

cgsx1, man, what are you doing to get that high score? I didn't get all of mine written down (didn't pause in time), but the first three digits were 135. I missed some enemies, but not that many. Did you finish with a lot of crystals?

Yes, there's a bonus for extra crystals.  I had about 7000 crystals leftover, with no cheat I might add.

At the very end the leftover crystals are multiplied by 100 and that number is added to your score.  My score was around 1.4 million before the crystal bonus.

nice, man. Did you finally give earth armor a shot?
I tried it but man I cant get used to playing at a different level in the game just to drop the ground weapon when it's not powered up. It just throws me off too much. Also gotta go with Water for Ceilon, wipes out everything on the screen that is normally super annoying in that level like the guys that come from the left side of the screen and shoot the homing. Water maxed doesn't even give them a chance to enter the screen

Is anyone else playing with the fire armor? I like it in part because of how quiet it is. It let's me hear the music more.

fire is ok, the first form with the diagonals is nice but powered up it kinda sucks. It's like they should have taken the first and just beefed it up, then it would have been good. The fire bomb though is really awesome and takes down some tough bosses and mid bosses

The way the fire armor leaves you vulnerable to enemies behind you does kind of suck. However, the way that the flames have an absolute pattern no matter what they're touching, and the way they do big damage to anything they overlap for long, balances it out pretty well. That and the bomb. Three of those alone will kill the final boss if they're well placed.

The thing I don't like about the water armor is that the rearward bullets of the strongest form wind up taking out lots of little enemies as they enter the screen from the left, which means the crystals they drop scroll off the screen immediately.

Wind armor is too damn noisy.

Earth armor is great when there's a floor, but I haven't clicked with it yet. I'm thinking I'll give it a shot today.

Looks like I'm gonna have to try the Earth armor. I'm normally a Water armor guy.

It's funny, given some of the comments, how shooter fans like to criticize Lords of Thunder for being too easy. :P

Earth Armor's powered up lofting blasts are by far the best weapon and way overpowered. It takes a bit of getting used to, as does the game in general, but once you adjust to playing around its shots, you'll takes anything down in seconds.

If that fails, there's always this classic strategy guide, which is generally agreed upon to be the best:

Ante has been upped! ( : if only I hadn't spent 300 crystals on bombs I ddidn't even need, I would have had 300k more points and been #1 on the high score thread... might take another stab at it later.  Normal difficulty, no $ cheat, earth armor.

Dude you gotta make a vid next time, I gotta see your techniques

Nice guys!  I tried pausing near the end last year when trying for a score, but if you don't do it in time it will not let you pause at all, then roll the ending.  It's nice to know that the score keeps when the demo goes.  I never knew that and I had the game since launch!  That is why I love these threads!  Now go post your scores in the official high score thread.  We need to keep that stuff updated!  I love the competition!

Nice score nullity!  I didn't have a chance to play this weekend yet but I'll be aiming for your score during my next play-through.

I used the fire armor on my last play-through.  I like the fire armor since it seems to have a good balance of range and power.

The water armor has the best range, front and back and seems fairly powerful.  However, as SamIAm mentioned, I didn't like how it kills enemies from the left side quickly and those crystals dropped are not able to be collected.  A good screen clearing weapon when powered up.

Earth is really strong with a short range; it almost seems too strong when fully powered.   Good for the tighter/close areas and bosses.

The wind armor I've spent the least amount of time with.  Decent range but seems very weak.  I remember getting overwhelmed when the screen gets full of enemies.  Is the wind armor anyone's choice weapon to use?
