Nice, I also use Xubuntu was using Lubuntu before that about half a year ago but Xu has more features I like.

Ha awesome!  Your preferences for PC Engine and Xubuntu reveal a gentlemanly character and impeccable taste.

LXDE is pretty cool, I tried it out for a while but I always kept going back to XFCE.  I agree that XFCE has a better feature set, but I think both are good choices.  I tried all the major desktop environments (and even flirted with window managers briefly) when Ubuntu went from GNOME to the utter horror that is Unity.

I'm not 100% in love with the packages that come with Xubuntu but that's easy-enough to change.  I have the same ambivalence toward Ubuntu's core product, but I love Debian/APT and it's just the most convenient way to access that eco-system.  I just don't have the time to spend my life configuring Linux distros.

Windows 7 for my primary work machines at home and at work.  XP on the netbook.  I dual boot XP and edubuntu on my Pentium 4 for the home theater/kids rig.  There is so much good free stuff available for kids in edubuntu.

I have previously had Xubuntu installed on an older machine and loved it.

I currently used Fedora as my OS of choice on my desktop and laptop with Windows XP and 7 running in Virtual Machines if I need to use a Windows tool that won't work in Wine. My desktop environment of choice is XFCE as well :)

Nice to see some linux users, I've put most of my family members on it as I got sick of fixing their windows related bs.
yeah xubuntu and lubuntu are great for anyone who likes it simple and effective or people who are use to xp. I tried elementary recently and that was kinda cool if you are into a mac style defo worth checking out. I use to like E17 bodhi a few years back, was fun to flash it up with themes and conky, plus it uses little resources but didn't like the layout of menus and it seemed overly complex. still i keep and eye on e17 distros on distrowatch. for fun here is a shot of e17 and of my current desktop before I update to 14.04

Yesterday I installed Lubuntu on my wife's netbook and have had a blast playing with it. It's amazing how similar the experience is to Windows XP.  LibreOffice, Picasa, Dropbox, Skype, Firefox - everything we've been using on XP we can use in Lubuntu (though I had to set up Wine for Picasa, which was absurdly simple).

Xubuntu 4 lyfe

I was a long time KDE user, up until KDE 4.0 came out and ruined the experience. Since being forced to migrate off of KDE 3.X, I've been using XFCE at home and haven't looked back.

I totally forgot Steam is now supporting Linux (to a degree).  I spent this afternoon revisiting Half-Life.  I remember bitd a friend of mine had a monster gaming PC and I was floored when I first saw HL on his machine.  Now it plays flawlessly on a 6 yr old $300 netbook, running Linux!  I couldn't get HL2 running on it, but that wasn't much of a surprise.  I only dabble with Linux 2-3 times a year and I'm always impressed at how things are developing.  It'll be nice to have a dedicated machine (albeit an old netbook).
