At home most of my PCs are Windows 7. My Surface Pro 2 is Windows 8.1 and I absolutely love the thing. I've got older XP and '98 boxes as well which I use approximately never. There's an Apple II GS in pieces in my office and thumbsticks and DVDs containing various linux distros (mint, ubuntu, backtrack). I use those even less than the XP and '98 boxes.

Work is mostly Windows 7 with the occasional Windows Server 2012.

I don't have any major complaints for any of the OS's I use. Each does what I need it to do.

I've been considering selling my iPad and getting a surface pro. Those things are badass.

When I see KDE, it makes me a sad panda, I haven't liked it since launch, keep trying to give it another go, but YUCK....

TOP WM's for me

Gnome, just always feels right
Cinnamon, really grew on me
Fluxbox, so simple and lightweight

KDE, ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Honestly I don't know if I'd do that. The Pro 2 works amazing as a laptop. It's slim and the touch controls are awesome. The stylus is awesome and the handwriting recognition is pretty spot on. I'm still learning OneNote, but it's pretty damn cool so far. Battery life I swear exceeds my phone. Most importantly it runs real Windows, which means Steam, emulators, real browsers, 3DSMax, damn near everything.

It works as a fine tablet as well, but it's pretty heavy. That's probably my biggest complaint. If your major use case is "Sitting on the shitter browsing" then I don't know if it's the best choice. Be aware that this is the kind of device that craves landscape display. It'd be awesome if they'd some how make the kickstand work vertically and horizontally.

My use case is more along the lines of "i need real applications" than sit on the couch stuff. My iPad is currently relegated to playing porn and episodes of Chrontendo.

EDIT: CHRONtendo...damn auto correct

  awesome

If that's the case then you'll love it. Get the bluetooth arc mouse as well. Straightens out small, works on any surface I've tried it on (including glass), and it's bluetooth! The middle mouse "button" feels great too, there's weight to the wheel.

And because Sadler's drinking beer: if you are running any sort of network in your house, FFS get yourself Mouse without Borders.

Windows 8. I know that the interface somewhat "sucks" but when you learn to use it it's not bad at all.
Also I boot DOS via USB to play some games directly without emulation (however without sound... sigh). I use it to play old KOEI games.

I'm considering to install a linux distro again on my PC but I always regret it and end up uninstalling it for various reasons.

Surprised that so many workplaces still use XP.

My three:

*XP "legacy" desktop I keep around for some old games and things that need SCSI, ZIP discs, and floppies.

*XP / Win7 dual-boot 2010 laptop, does everything from native dial-up modem and TV Tuner to USB 3.0, HDMI, ESATA, SPDIF, a card reader, and a real docking station.

*XP audio computer, my favorite. 2007 Dell, downgraded from Vista, has been online once for two necessary Windows updates. Otherwise it's an internet virgin with nothing but audio software and boots in about 8 seconds. Awesome.
